What are Hastelloy Sheets and Plates?

Hastelloy sheets and plates are flat-form products made from nickel-based superalloys. Sheets measure under 6 mm (0.236″) for lighter-gauge work; plates are 6 mm and above for pressure vessels. Hot rolling produces thicker plates; cold rolling gives thinner sheets with tighter tolerances. In Hastelloy, the nickel content is useful for corrosion resistance, molybdenum for reducing-acid protection, chromium for oxidising defence, and tungsten (in C-276) for chloride resistance. These alloys outperform stainless steel grades in concentrated acid service.

Available Grades of Hastelloy Sheets & Plates

Nicorex Alloys stocks Hastelloy sheets and plates in 5 grades. Each targets a specific corrosion or temperature challenge.

Hastelloy C276 Sheet & Plate

This is the most widely used Ni-Cr-Mo grade. C276 resists sulfuric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acid across a broad temperature range, making it the default choice for mixed-acid chemical processing.

Hastelloy C22 Sheet & Plate

C22 has a higher chromium (22%), which gives it better pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion cracking resistance than C276, that too in oxidising and mixed-acid upset conditions.

Hastelloy C2000 Sheet & Plate

C2000 has copper at 1.6% that boosts sulfuric acid resistance beyond any other Ni-Cr-Mo grade. It handles both oxidising and reducing acids plus chloride-bearing environments in a single alloy.

Hastelloy X Sheet & Plate

Hastelloy X is a high-temperature alloy retaining oxidation resistance and strength up to 2200°F (1200°C). Gas turbine components, industrial furnaces, and aerospace parts are its primary applications.

Hastelloy 59 Sheet & Plate

Hastelloy C59, also known as Alloy 59, is a low-carbon nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy that resists oxidation, corrosion, pitting, and crevice corrosion very well.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Most Common Grades of Hastelloy Sheets and Plates?

The commonly supplied grades are C276 (broadest acid range), C22 (best pitting resistance), C2000 (dual acid resistance with copper), and X (high-temperature strength up to 1200°C).

Sheets are under 6 mm thick and suit lighter-gauge fabrication. Plates are 6 mm and above, used for pressure vessels, reactor shells, and heavy structural builds.
ASTM B575 / ASME SB-575 covers C276, C22, and C2000. ASTM B333 / ASME SB-333 covers B2 and B3. ASTM B435 / ASME SB-435 covers Hastelloy X.
Yes. GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), SMAW, and plasma welding all work. Use matching filler metals: ERNiCrMo-4 for C276, ERNiCrMo-10 for C22, per AWS A5.14. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required.
Hastelloy excels in acid corrosion resistance, particularly against HCl, H₂SO₄, and mixed acids. Inconel is built for high-temperature oxidation resistance and mechanical strength at elevated temperatures. The service environment dictates the choice.
Yes. Every shipment includes EN 10204/3.1B mill test certificates with full chemical and mechanical test reports. PMI verification and third-party inspection (TPI) are available on request.
