ERTi-9 TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified stockist and supplier of ERTi-9 titanium welding wire (Ti-3Al-2.5V), classified under AWS A5.16 / ASME SFA-5.16. We supply high-quality ERTi-9 TIG Filler Rod & MIG wire.

ERTi-9 is a highly specialised alpha-beta titanium alloy filler wire, containing 3% aluminum and 2.5% vanadium, which is well accepted by the industry as Grade 9 titanium. The chemical composition is carefully formulated to provide an ideal combination of high ductility, excellent cold formability, and guaranteed weldability. ERTi-9 weld metal, according to AWS A5.16, is reported to have a tensile strength of 620 MPa (90,000 psi) with 14% elongation, thus making it suitable for critical structural use. The alloy is available in TIG rods and MIG spools, with GTAW and GMAW processes using DCEN and DCEP, respectively, together with 100% UHP argon shielding. To maintain metallurgical integrity and prevent atmospheric contamination or embrittlement, the use of a back purge and an extended trailing shield is mandatory. These protective measures must remain active until the weldment has cooled safely below the critical threshold of 427°C (800°F) to ensure maximum performance and joint longevity in demanding environments.

Nicorex Alloys stocks and distributes materials and provides ERTi-9 for various uses, including aircraft hydraulic tubing, pressure vessels under ASME Section VIII, oil and gas production tubing, aerospace foils, and sports equipment. Base metals include Titanium Grade 9 (P-52), Grade 18, Grade 28, and Grade 2 (P-51). Every consignment ships with an EN 10204/3.1B mill test certificate.

What Does ERTi-9 Mean? - AWS A5.16 Classification Explained

Consult the table below for a breakdown of the AWS A5.16 alphanumeric system defining this specific titanium grade.
Prefix / Designator Meaning & Technical Significance
ER Electrode / Rod: Bare solid wire suitable for both TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) processes.
Ti Titanium: Indicates the base metal chemistry is titanium-based.
9 Grade 9 Alloy: An alpha-beta alloy (Ti-3Al-2.5V) where aluminium adds strength and vanadium ensures workability.
High-performance titanium alloy filler material ERTi-9 is Ti-3Al-2.5V with 620 MPa tensile strength. Material weldability and formability are better than Grade 5. This makes it ideal for aeronautical hydraulics and racing frames.

Weld Deposit Chemical Composition of ERTi-9

Please see the following data for the precise elemental percentages and purity levels required for ERTi-9 weld deposits.
Specification Carbon (C) Oxygen (O) Nitrogen (N) Hydrogen (H) Iron (Fe) Palladium (Pd) Titanium (Ti)
AWS A5.16 Req. (%) 0.03 max 0.08–0.16 0.015 max 0.008 max 0.12 max 0.12–0.25 Remainder
2.5–3.5% Al strengthens the alpha phase; 2.0–3.0% V promotes a small beta fraction for cold-workability. Hydrogen is capped at 0.005% max, tighter than ERTi-2’s 0.008% limit, due to higher susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement in the alpha-beta microstructure.

Base Metal Compatibility and P-Number Matrix for ERTi-9

Review the following compatibility guide for the various titanium alloys and ASME P-Numbers suitable for ERTi-9 filler metal.
Base Metal UNS ASME P-No. Joint Type
Titanium Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) R56320 P-52 Similar — primary application
Titanium Grade 18 (Ti-3Al-2.5V-0.05Pd) R56322 P-52 Similar — Pd-enhanced variant
Titanium Grade 28 (Ti-3Al-2.5V-0.1Ru) R56323 P-52 Similar — Ru-enhanced variant
Titanium Grade 2 (CP) R50400 P-51 Dissimilar — ERTi-2 often preferred
For Grade 9 base metal, both ERTi-9 and ERTi-2 are used. ERTi-9 provides matching strength (620 MPa); ERTi-2 provides an undermatched but more ductile deposit (345 MPa, 20% elongation). ERTi-9 should not be used for Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) joints.

Storage and Handling of Titanium ERTi-9 Welding Wire

Alpha-beta titanium alloys are more sensitive to interstitial pickup than CP grades. Keep wire in original sealed packaging; reseal immediately after use. Store at 15–35°C, below 60% RH, separated from ferrous materials and copper alloys. Clean rods with acetone before use and handle with lint-free gloves. ERTi-9 bare wire does not require re-baking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Price of ERTi-9 Titanium Welding Wire per kg in India?
ERTi-9 pricing depends on diameter, form, order quantity, and titanium market rates. Contact Nicorex Alloys for a quotation.
After welding, aviation hydraulic tubes must be bent through complex geometries at 3,000-8,000 pressure. ERTi-9 meets pressure requirements with its 620 MPa tensile strength and 14% elongation for post-weld cold bend. When bent, ERTi-5 cracks at 895 MPa. AMS 4943/4944/4945 is a Grade 9 hydraulic tube.
Yes. ERTi-2 is commonly used for Grade 9, where maximum weld ductility matters. Its deposit (345 MPa, 20% elongation) is undermatched but allows post-weld bending without cracking. When matching strength is required per ASME Section VIII, use ERTi-9.
We supply TIG rods in 0.9, 1.6, 2.4, and 3.2 mm sizes within 5 kg tubes at 914 or 1000 mm lengths. Our MIG wire comes in 0.8, 0.9, and 1.2 mm on vacuum-sealed 5 kg or 10 kg spools, always including full MTC 3.1 certification.
Do not use ERTi-9 for Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) joints; use ERTi-5 or ERTi-23 instead. Avoid for reducing acid service; use ERTi-7 or ERTi-12. For severe cold-forming at tight bend radii, ERTi-2 (20% elongation) may be preferred. Never use CO₂, O₂, or N₂ shielding.
