AWS Class ER80S-B6 MIG & TIG

ER80S-B6 TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001- and ISO 14001-certified Mumbai-based stockist and supplier of ER80S-B6 chrome-moly welding wire. We provide these wires classified under AWS A5.28 / ASME SFA-5.28.

ER80S-B6 wire consists of 4.50–6.00% Cr and 0.45–0.65% Mo, with a minimum tensile strength of 550 MPa (80 ksi) and yield of 470 MPa (68 ksi) after mandatory PWHT at 740–760°C. That 4.50–6.00% Cr chromium level delivers sulphidation resistance at equal temperatures in high-sulphur crude oil service, and resists hot hydrogen attack beyond the Nelson curve limits of lower CrMo grades. The air-hardening martensitic weld deposit demands strict preheat of min 175°C (350°F) and PWHT to temper the microstructure below 225 HV before any service loading. Also referred to as 5Cr-0.5Mo TIG wire, P5 welding wire, ER502 (its former AWS A5.9-93 designation), Alloy 502 filler wire, or chrome-moly 5Cr filler rod, ER80S-B6 is a low-alloy steel solid wire built for welding 5% chromium steel piping, tubing, and castings in refinery and petrochemical high-temperature service.

ER80S-B6 TIG rods come in 1.6, 2.0, 2.4, and 3.2 mm diameters; MIG wire in 0.9, 1.2, and 1.6 mm spools (D200 and D300). Nicorex Alloys stocks matching consumable sets across GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW processes for a full 5Cr-0.5Mo project supply. Every batch ships with MTC 3.1 per EN 10204.

Industrial Welding Applications of ER80S-B6 (5Cr-0.5Mo) Filler Wire

ER80S-B6 filler wire is strong, resists corrosion very well, and works reliably in harsh, chloride-rich environments.
Industrial Applications

Storage and Handling of ER80S-B6 Welding Wire

Store in original sealed packaging at 15–30°C, humidity below 50% RH. Low-hydrogen practice is critical because 5Cr-0.5Mo deposits are martensitic and susceptible to hydrogen cracking. Return partially used MIG spools to sealed packaging or heated cabinets at 40–50°C. Use the open wire within 8 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between ER80S-B6 and ER502?
They are the same product. ER502 was the classification under AWS A5.9-93. When AWS moved CrMo bare wires to A5.28, ER502 became ER80S-B6. Old purchase orders referencing ER502 denote this identical wire.
5% chromium resists naphthenic acid corrosion and sulphidation far better than lower CrMo grades. Corrosion rates on 1.25Cr can be 5–10 times higher than 5Cr at the same temperature.
PWHT at 740–760°C (1365–1400°F) is mandatory, held 1 hour per 25 mm thickness (minimum 30 minutes). As-welded hardness exceeds 350 HV. PWHT temperatures below 225 HV for safe service.
TIG rods are 914 mm and 1000 mm in length in 5 kg tubes.MIG wire is supplied on D200 spools (12.5 kg) and D300 spools (15 kg), while SAW wire (EB6) is supplied in 25 kg coils. All forms ship with MTC 3.1.
Do not use ER80S-B6 for 1.25Cr-0.5Mo service, for 2.25Cr-1Mo service, for 9Cr-1Mo or P91 service, without PWHT, for sustained service above 595°C, or for 5Cr-to-stainless dissimilar joints.
