The INCONEL 112 welding rod is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum flux-coated consumable classified as ENiCrMo-3 under AWS A5.11 / ASME SFA 5.11 (UNS W86112, Werkstoff Nr. 2.4621, ISO ENi6625, ASME IX F-43). In SMAW practice, welders refer to this as an Alloy 112 stick electrode for manual arc welding. This filler electrode excels at overlay cladding, dissimilar metal welding and direct joining of Ni-Cr-Mo base metals across a service range from cryogenic (-196°C / -320°F) up to 982°C (1800°F).

ENiCrMo-3 is compatible with Inconel 625, Incoloy 825, 25-6MO and other Mo-bearing stainless steels. The weld deposit delivers 760 MPa (110 ksi) minimum tensile strength and 30% elongation with excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and chloride stress-corrosion cracking. Standard electrode diameters range from 2.4 mm (3/32 in) to 4.7 mm (3/16 in), all operated on DCEP polarity. Most industries include oil and gas, chemical processing, marine, nuclear, power generation, offshore and cryogenic service. Three primary uses drive selection: dissimilar metal welding, overlay cladding and welding of Ni-Cr-Mo base metals.

Chemical Composition of ENiCrMo-3 Weld Deposit (%)

The chemical composition of ENiCrMo-3 weld deposit, as specified under AWS A5.11, determines its corrosion performance in chloride and reducing acid environments.
Material / Element Nickel (Ni) Chromium (Cr) Molybdenum (Mo) Niobium + Tantalum (Nb+Ta) Iron (Fe) Manganese (Mn) Silicon (Si) Copper (Cu) Cobalt (Co) Carbon (C) Phosphorus (P) Sulfur (S)
Composition (%) Balance (~60%) 20.023.0 8.0-10.0 3.15-4.15 7.0 max 1.0 max 0.75 max 0.50 max 0.12 max 0.10 max 0.03 max 0.020 max
The high nickel content (~60%) provides excellent dissimilar weldability, while 9% molybdenum gives superior pitting resistance in chloride-containing environments. The niobium addition (3.15–4.15%) stabilises the weld deposit against intergranular corrosion.

Mechanical Properties of ENiCrMo-3 Weld Deposit

The mechanical properties of ENiCrMo-3 weld deposit, as specified under AWS A5.11, demonstrate high tensile strength, reliable yield performance and ductility.
Property Tensile Strength (min) Yield Strength, 0.2% (typical) Elongation (min)
Value 760 MPa (110,000 psi) ~455 MPa (~66,000 psi) 30%
These traits make ENiCrMo-3 a good choice for chemical processing, offshore work and power generation that are very stressful.

Industrial Applications of INCONEL 112 (ENiCrMo-3) Welding Electrode

Exceptional pitting resistance and dissimilar metal weldability make the ENiCrMo-3 welding electrode a preferred consumable for these SMAW applications:
Industrial Applications
These ENiCrMo-3 welding electrodes operate reliably from cryogenic (-196°C) up to 1800°F (982°C). On the shop floor, welders commonly call this the ‘112 rod’ or ‘625 stick electrode’.

Storage & Handling of ENiCrMo-3 Coated Electrodes

ENiCrMo-3 coated electrodes use a mineral-based flux coating sensitive to moisture. Improper storage causes porosity and hydrogen-induced cracking.

Store sealed canisters at 10-32°C (50-90°F) with humidity below 50%. After opening, transfer electrodes to a holding oven at 250-400°F (121-204°C). Issue only one shift’s quantity. Limit atmospheric exposure to 4 hours maximum before reconditioning.

Recondition exposed electrodes at 600-700°F (316-371°C) for 2-3 hours. Preheat cold electrodes at 200-250°F first. Do not recondition more than 3 times. Moisture in the flux releases hydrogen into the weld pool, causing subsurface porosity in nickel alloy welds.
