ER4047 TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire Supplier in India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001- and ISO 14001-certified supplier and importer of ER4047 aluminium TIG filler rods and MIG welding wire base in Mumbai, India. We stock ER4047 in TIG rod and MIG spool classified under AWS A5.10 / SFA-5.10 with UNS designation A94047.

ER4047 aluminium filler wire (also called 4047 or AlSi12 TIG rod) is a near‑eutectic aluminium‑silicon alloy designed for high‑quality welding and brazing. It contains 11-13% silicon (UNS A94047), giving it one of the lowest melting points among common aluminium filler metals, about 573°C. The high silicon content provides an extremely fluid weld pool with excellent wetting, very low shrinkage on solidification, and strong resistance to hot cracking. Typical weld metal tensile strength is about 170 MPa (25 ksi), and fillet weld shear strength is around 131 MPa (19 ksi). ER4047 is suitable for welding 6XXX, 3XXX, 1XXX, and cast Al‑Si alloys (such as 356 and A356) using GTAW (AC) or GMAW (DCEP, 100% argon). It is also classified as a brazing alloy (BAlSi‑4 per AWS A5.8), making it an excellent choice for furnace brazing of aluminium heat exchangers, radiators, and HVAC components where good flow and leak‑tight joints are critical.

Every ER4047 coil and rod from Nicorex Alloys includes EN 10204 3.1B mill test certificates with full heat-lot traceability. We supply aluminium welding consumables across India and export markets for automotive, heat exchanger fabrication, cast aluminium repair, food processing and general structural welding applications.

AWS Classification Explained: What Does ER4047 Mean?

This table explains the AWS code ER4047 and what each part means in the aluminium-silicon alloy system.
Designator Meaning
E Electrode (suitable for GMAW)
R Rod (suitable for GTAW and OFW)
4XXX Al-Si alloy series
047 Specific alloy: 11.0–13.0% Si
ER4043 has only 4.5-6% silicon and solidifies over a wider temperature range. ER4047, with about 12% silicon, solidifies in a very narrow range, giving excellent flow and the lowest shrinkage of common aluminium fillers.

Chemical Composition of ER4047 per AWS A5.10

This table lists the chemical composition of ER4047 welding wire as defined in AWS A5.10, including each element and its allowed range.
Specification Silicon (Si) Iron (Fe) Copper (Cu) Manganese (Mn) Magnesium (Mg) Zinc (Zn) Beryllium (Be) Aluminium (Al)
AWS A5.10 Req. (%) 11.0–13.0 0.80 max 0.30 max 0.15 max 0.10 max 0.20 max 0.0003 max Balance
ER4047 contains 11-13% silicon, over twice that of ER4043. This high silicon level lowers the melting point to about 573°C and greatly reduces shrinkage and porosity in the weld.

Mechanical Properties of ER4047 Weld Deposits

The following table presents typical mechanical properties of ER4047 weld deposits, including strength values and post-anodising characteristics for aluminium applications.
Specification Tensile Strength Fillet Weld Shear Strength Post-Anodising Colour
Typical Value ~170 MPa (25 ksi) ~131 MPa (19 ksi) Dark grey to black
ER4047 fillet welds have higher shear strength than ER4043, which helps in automotive and structural joints, but their eutectic silicon structure makes them less ductile than ER5356.

Base Metal Compatibility for ER4047 TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire

This table shows where ER4047 filler metal can be used and its key technical limits, including compatible alloy grades.
Base Alloy Type Specific Grade / Alloy P-Number Features or Benefits
Wrought Al-Mg-Si 6061, 6063, 6082 P-23 High Fluidity: Excellent wetting action and flow into tight structural joints.
Wrought Manganese 3003, 3004 P-21 Leak-Tight: Higher silicon content ensures dense, pressure-tight welds.
Pure Aluminum 1100 P-21 Reduced Shrinkage: Minimises solidification cracking in thin-gauge materials.
Cast Al-Si 356, A356, 319, 443 N/A Brazing Capability: Low melting range allows use as a specialised brazing alloy.

Welding Parameters for ER4047 TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire

The table below lists suggested welding settings for ER4047 in both GTAW and GMAW, which helps keep the arc stable and the weld quality consistent.
Process / Diameter Current (A) Shielding Gas
GTAW – 1.6 mm 50–100 100% Argon, AC
GTAW – 2.4 mm 90–160 100% Argon, AC
GTAW – 3.2 mm 130–220 100% Argon, AC
GMAW – 0.8 mm 50–110 100% Argon, DCEP
GMAW – 1.0 mm 70–150 100% Argon, DCEP
GMAW – 1.2 mm 110–230 100% Argon, DCEP
The eutectic composition creates a smooth, self‑levelling weld pool, so ER4047 works very well for brazing gaps and fillet welds that rely on capillary flow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of ER4047 Welding Wire per kg in India?
ER4047 usually costs about the same as ER4043. Contact Nicorex Alloys with your required quantity and wire diameter to get the latest price per kg.
ER4047 has 11-13% silicon while ER4043 has 4.5-6%. ER4047 melts at a lower temperature, flows better, shrinks less, gives higher fillet strength, and can be used for brazing. ER4043 is more ductile and more general-purpose.
Yes. ER4047 (BAlSi-4) melts at about 573°C, slightly below the solidus of common alloys like 6061. This allows capillary flow without melting the base metal, so it is widely used for furnace brazing of heat exchangers and HVAC parts.
ER4047 has F-Number F-22 under ASME Section IX QW-432. The A-Number is not applicable. The relevant ASME filler metal specification is SFA-5.10.
Yes. Because of its high silicon content, ER4047 welds turn dark grey to black after anodising, even darker than ER4043. Do not use it where colour match is important; ER5356 is preferred there.
Avoid using ER4047 for 5XXX alloys with >3% Mg, anodised parts needing colour match, marine or saltwater service, joints needing maximum ductility, and 2XXX aerospace alloys.
