ER310 Welding Wire (310 Stainless): TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire Supplier in India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified Mumbai-based supplier and stockist of ER310 welding wire, classified under AWS A5.9 / ASME SFA-5.9, UNS S31080.

ER310 is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic stainless steel solid wire with 25-28% Cr and 20-22.5% Ni. It produces a fully austenitic weld deposit with zero ferrite. The moderate carbon content of 0.08-0.15% is deliberate. It provides carbide strengthening for high-temperature creep resistance above 800°C. This wire is the only standard stainless steel filler wire rated for continuous oxidation resistance up to 1150°C (2100°F). The 26% Cr and 21% Ni form a stable, adherent chromium oxide scale that resists spalling under thermal cycling.

ER310 is available as TIG rods (0.8 to 4.0 mm), MIG spools (0.8 to 1.6 mm), and SAW wire (2.4 to 4.0 mm), and it can weld AISI 310, 310S, and 314 wrought steels, ASTM A297 HK/HT heat-resistant castings, and different types of stainless steels. This alloy is used in industries such as heat treatment, petrochemical refining, power generation, incineration, steel production, and glass manufacturing, where weld deposits are constantly exposed to temperatures above 900°C and need to resist breaking off due to oxide scale. All wire supplied by Nicorex Alloys ships with MTC 3.1 per EN 10204, batch-tested to AWS A5.9 requirements.

ER Electrode/Rod: bare solid wire for GTAW, GMAW, and SAW
310 Composition type: 25% Chromium, 20% Nickel (the 25-20 designation in the AISI system)
ER310 carries 0.08-0.15% carbon for creep resistance.

Chemical Composition of ER310 Weld Deposit (%)

ER310 weld deposit chemistry per AWS A5.9, with typical values from
Material Carbon (C) Chromium (Cr) Nickel (Ni) Molybdenum (Mo) Manganese (Mn) Silicon (Si) Phosphorus (P) Sulphur (S) Copper (Cu)
AWS A5.9 0.08 – 0.15% 25.0 – 28.0% 20.0 – 22.5% 0.75% max 1.0 – 2.5% 0.30 – 0.65% 0.03% max 0.03% max 0.75% max
Typical 0.10% 26.00% 21.00% 0.15% 1.70% 0.50% 0.012% 0.010% —
High Cr + high Ni produces a fully austenitic deposit with zero delta ferrite. Without ferrite to arrest solidification cracking, welders must use low heat input and stringer beads.

Base Metal Compatibility for ER310

Refer to the following table for a comprehensive list of heat-resistant stainless steels and alloys compatible with ER310 filler metal.
Base Metal AISI/ASTM P number Notes
310 SS AISI 310 P-8 Primary matching application
310S SS AISI 310S P-8 Low-carbon variant of 310
HK Cast ASTM A297 HK P-8 25Cr-20Ni heat-resistant casting
HT Cast ASTM A297 HT, P-8 15Cr-35Ni high-temp casting
For dissimilar joints, ER310 provides a fully austenitic buffer when joining austenitic (304/316) to ferritic stainless (430/446). For carbon steel-to-stainless joints, use ER309L.

Recommended Welding Parameters for ER310 TIG & MIG Wire

Please consult the following table for optimised voltage, current, and shielding gas settings for ER310 TIG and MIG welding.
GTAW (TIG) Parameters

1.2 mm (0.045″) 80-110 13-16 100% Argon
1.6 mm (1/16″) 90-130 14-16 100% Argon
2.4 mm (3/32″) 120-175 15-20 100% Argon
GMAW (MIG) Parameters
Diameter Amps Volts Gas
0.9 mm (0.035″) 60-220 16-29 Ar + 2% O₂
1.2 mm (0.045″) 160-260 25-30 Ar + 2% O₂
1.6 mm (1/16″) 230-350 27-31 Ar + 2% O₂

Low heat input is critical for ER310: the zero-ferrite deposit is susceptible to hot cracking. Use stringer beads only; no weaving. Keep interpass temperature below 150°C (302°F).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Price of ER310 Stainless Steel Welding Wire per kg in India?

Pricing of ER310 SS welding wire depends on diameter, form, and volume. ER310 costs more than 308L or 309L due to its high nickel content (20-22.5%). Contact Nicorex Alloys with your specification and quantity.

High nickel content stabilises austenite, producing a deposit with zero delta ferrite. Without ferrite to arrest solidification cracking, use low heat input and stringer beads, and keep interpass temperature below 150°C.
Continuous oxidation resistance reaches 1150°C (2100°F); intermittent/cyclic resistance holds to 1035°C (1900°F). Above 1150°C, consider ER330 or nickel-based fillers.

No. AWS A5.9 does not include ER310L. The 0.08-0.15% carbon is intentional for creep resistance.

ER310 has 0.08-0.15% carbon; ER310H has 0.35-0.45%. Both share the same Cr/Ni balance. ER310H is for severe carburising service (pyrolysis tubes). ER310 covers general high-temperature oxidation.

The F-number and A-number for ER310 are F-6 and A-8 per ASME Section IX. A welder qualified with any F-6 filler (ER308L, ER316L, ER310) is qualified for all F-6 fillers per QW-433.

Our 1000-mm TIG rods come in 5 kg tubes. Our MIG wire comes in 12.5 kg (D200) or 15 kg (D300) spools. SAW wire comes in coils of 25 kg or 60 lb, and each order includes a 3.1 Mill Test Certificate in line with EN 10204 to assure product integrity.

Do not use ER310 for standard carbon steel-to-stainless joints. Avoid where sensitisation resistance is the priority. Do not exceed 1150°C continuous service. Never use excessive heat input or weaving. The zero-ferrite deposit will crack.
