ER330 TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire Supplier in India

Nicorex Alloys is a Mumbai-based ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified supplier and stockist of ER330 welding wire, classified under AWS A5.9 and ASME SFA 5.9 as a bare stainless steel electrode and rod for GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) welding.

ER330 is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel solid wire for welding wrought and cast materials of the AISI 330 / HT family, a specialised metallic blend of iron, nickel, and chromium. The weld deposit contains ~35% Nickel, 15.5% Chromium, 1.5% Manganese, 0.60% Silicon, and 0.20% Carbon. That high carbon range (0.18- 0.25%) is intentional. ER330 provides superior elevated-temperature creep strength, ensuring structural stability and long-term performance in high-heat industrial applications. The fully austenitic microstructure remains stable at all temperatures with no sigma phase embrittlement and no ductility loss from thermal cycling. Typically, as-welded tensile strength reaches 583 MPa (84,500 psi), yield strength 386 MPa (56,000 psi), and elongation 29%.

ER330 weld metal can withstand carburisation, oxidation, and sudden temperature changes up to 980°C (1800°F), which makes it the main choice for radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, carburising fixtures, and furnace conveyor belts. We stock TIG rods (1.6 to 4.0 mm) and MIG spools (0.8 to 1.6 mm) compatible with AISI 330 and ASTM A297 cast alloys. Every order includes MTC 3.1 certification to ensure full material traceability and industrial quality compliance.

AWS Classification Explained: What Does ER330 Mean?

The following table provides the full ER330 classification, showing how its high nickel and carbon content set it apart for high-heat applications.
Prefix/Designator Meaning & Technical Significance
ER Electrode / Rod: Solid wire suitable for both TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) processes.
330 35Ni-15Cr Alloy: High Nickel content (34–37%) providing superior resistance to carburization and oxidation.
ER330 is a high-nickel (35% Ni) and chromium (16% Cr) filler metal designed for extreme heat. Its controlled carbon content is essential for maintaining creep strength at service temperatures exceeding standard stainless limits.

Chemical Composition of ER330 Weld Deposit (%)

Refer to the following table for the ER330 chemical composition required for high-temperature welding and technical fabrication.
Material / Element Carbon (C) Chromium (Cr) Nickel (Ni) Molybdenum (Mo) Manganese (Mn) Silicon (Si) Phosphorus (P) Sulphur (S) Copper (Cu)
AWS A5.9 Requirement 0.18 – 0.25% 15.0 – 17.0% 34.0 – 37.0% 0.75% max 1.0 – 2.5% 0.30 – 0.65% 0.03% max 0.03% max 0.75% max
The wire has lower Cr and Si than base metal AISI 330 (Cr 17- 20%, Si 0.75- 1.50%), reducing hot cracking susceptibility in the weld deposit.

Mechanical Properties of ER330 MIG Welding Wire

AWS A5.9 classifies ER330 by chemical composition only. The values below are typical manufacturer data for the as-welded condition.
PropertyTensile StrengthYield Strength (0.2%)ElongationHardness
Typical Value (As-Welded)583 MPa (84,500 psi)386 MPa (56,000 psi)29%~85-90 HRB
ER330 retains useful strength above 650°C (1200°F) and still delivers creep-rupture resistance at 870°C (1600°F) that ER308L or ER316L cannot match.

Use convex stringer beads only; concave beads crack. Fill all craters completely. Keep interpass below 121°C (250°F). No preheat required. Always add filler metal with GTAW. Do not use Ar-O₂ or 75Ar/25CO₂ gas for MIG. Use dedicated stainless steel brushes and grinding wheels to prevent carbon steel contamination.

Industrial Applications

Storage and Handling of ER330 TIG Welding Rod

Store in original sealed packaging at 15- 30°C, humidity below 60% RH. Keep wire away from carbon steel, copper, zinc, and low-melting-point metals; even trace carbon steel dust triggers hot cracking. Clean TIG rods with acetone before use. Use dedicated stainless steel or nylon brushes and grinding wheels. Shelf life is indefinite if stored correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Difference between ER330 and ER310 for Furnace Welding?
ER330 excels in carburising atmospheres because high Ni resists carbon diffusion. ER310 has 21% Ni / 26% Cr. ER310 excels at oxidising atmospheres (high Cr generates a stable oxide scale). ER330 is suitable for carbon-rich furnace gas, ER310 for air or lean combustion.

The 35% nickel reacts with sulphur to form nickel sulphide (Ni₃S₂), a low-melting eutectic (~645°C) that causes intergranular attack. This is why ER330 should not be used in high-sulphur environments.

980°C (1800°F) in continuous service is the maximum service temperature for ER330. Above this, oxidation resistance drops.

Yes. Nickel at 34-37% fully stabilises austenite with zero ferrite. Low heat input, stringer beads, and interpass below 121°C are mandatory.

The MIG wire is supplied in 12.5 kg spools in size D200 and 15 kg spools in size D300. TIG rods are supplied in sizes of 1000 mm in bundles of 5 kg. Also, 25 kg coils of SAW wire are supplied along with 3.1 Mill Test Certificates for traceability.
Avoid ER330 in high-sulphur environments, for oxidation-critical service above 980°C, for standard corrosion service, or for multi-pass welds without a low-heat-input technique.
