Zirconium MIG and TIG filler wires join zirconium and zirconium alloy parts in controlled inert atmospheres. These wires preserve the base metal’s resistance to strong acids, chlorides, and alkaline solutions after welding. Zirconium also has a very low neutron absorption cross-section. This property makes it a primary material in nuclear reactor systems.
Our filler wires offer excellent resistance to hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and selected nitric acid environments under controlled conditions. Weld deposits hold mechanical strength through long service cycles. They also resist stress corrosion cracking in aggressive chemical environments.
Engineers select zirconium MIG and TIG wires when the base metal operates in highly corrosive conditions or nuclear service. Standard stainless steel or nickel alloy fillers cannot match zirconium’s combination of acid resistance and low neutron capture.
These filler wires can be found in nuclear fuel rod assemblies, chemical processing reactors, heat exchangers that handle strong acids, and spent fuel storage systems. Pharmaceutical vessels and acetic acid production columns also use zirconium welds.
