HAYNES 282 Welding Wire (ERNiCrCoMo-2) Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified supplier and stockist of HAYNES 282 welding wire in Mumbai, India. We supply ERNiCrCoMo-2 matching filler wire classified under AWS A5.14 / ASME SFA-5.14, UNS N07208.

HAYNES 282 filler wire is a nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy developed for structural applications that require excellent creep strength and thermal stability at temperatures between 649 °C and 927 °C. The alloy offers a rare combination of high temperature strength, weldability, and fabrication flexibility, making it easier to weld compared with many traditional precipitation-hardened superalloys. ERNiCrCoMo-2 filler metal is highly resistant to strain-age cracking during welding and post-weld heat treatment. After the recommended age-hardening treatment, weld deposits achieve high mechanical strength and maintain stable properties in demanding thermal environments. Because of these properties, HAYNES 282 welding wire is widely used in critical components such as gas turbine combustors, transition ducts and exhaust systems, turbine casings and hot-gas-path structures, aerospace engine components and advanced power generation systems. The alloy is also being adopted in advanced ultra-supercritical (A-USC) power plants and supercritical CO₂ energy systems, where long-term creep resistance and thermal stability are required.

Nicorex Alloys supplies ERNiCrCoMo-2 welding wire for TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding. It is available as filler rods, spools, coils, and reels. All material comes with a 3.1 Mill Test Certificate according to EN 10204, ensuring full traceability and compliance with international standards.

Chemical Composition of HAYNES 282 Weld Deposit (%)

The chemical composition of HAYNES 282 Weld Deposit, along with its proportion in percentage, is listed in the table below.
Specification Nickel (Ni) Chromium (Cr) Cobalt (Co) Molybdenum (Mo) Titanium (Ti) Aluminium (Al) Iron (Fe) Manganese (Mn) Silicon (Si) Carbon (C) Boron (B)
AWS Requirement 57.0 min 18.5–20.5 9.0–11.0 8.0–9.0 1.9–2.3 1.38–1.65 1.5 max 0.3 max 0.15 max 0.04–0.08 0.003–0.010
Typical 57.0 19.5 10.0 8.5 2.1 1.5 1.5 0.3 0.15 0.06 0.005
Titanium (2.1%) + Aluminium (1.5%) are the gamma-prime formers. Combined Ti+Al of ~3.6% enables ~19 vol% gamma-prime. Cobalt (10%) raises the gamma-prime solvus and provides solid-solution strengthening. Molybdenum (8.5%) strengthens the matrix and forms M₆C carbides at grain boundaries. Carbon (0.06%) + Boron (0.005%) form carbides and strengthen boundaries against creep cavitation. Low Fe, Si, and Mn prevent TCP phase formation.

Specification Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) Yield Strength, 0.2% Offset (YS) Elongation (%) Hardness
As-annealed ~120 ksi (~827 MPa) ~55 ksi (~379 MPa) ~50–60 ~20 HRC
Age-hardened* ~160 ksi (1103 MPa) ~101 ksi (696 MPa) ~30 ~33–38 HRC
*Age-hardening: 1010°C (1850°F) / 2 h / AC + 788°C (1450°F) / 8 h / AC Strength increase from annealed to aged: ~33% in UTS, ~83% in YS. At 649–927°C, age-hardened deposits surpass Waspaloy in creep strength and approach R-41.

Base Metal Compatibility for HAYNES 282 Filler Metal

ERNiCrCoMo-2 filler wire is stocked for the following base metals and dissimilar combinations.

Matching Filler Application

Base Metal Application
HAYNES 282 (UNS N07208) Primary matching filler for all thicknesses

 Dissimilar / Repair Applications

Dissimilar / Repair Application Notes
Repair of other γ′ superalloys 282 filler can repair Waspaloy, R-41, 263, and similar alloys
282 to solid-solution alloys Use 230-W, 556, HASTELLOY S, or W filler instead; do not use 282 filler unless full ageing of the assembly is feasible
282 to 718 Contact Haynes International: different ageing schedules
If using 282 filler for dissimilar joints, the entire weldment must undergo the 282 age-hardening cycle.

Welding Parameters and Post-Weld Heat Treatment for HAYNES 282 Filler Wire

This table explains recommended welding parameters and preparation practices for reliable welding of HAYNES 282 filler wire.

Industrial Applications

Storage and Handling of HAYNES 282 Welding Wire

ERNiCrCoMo-2 is a bare (uncoated) nickel alloy filler wire. No re-baking is required. There is no dedicated HAYNES 282 coated electrode. Store in a clean, dry environment at 15–25°C, <60% RH, in original sealed packaging, away from carbon steel storage and grinding zones. Shelf life is indefinite if the packaging remains sealed. Handle with lint-free gloves and stainless steel tools. If contamination is suspected, clean with acetone or IPA on a lint-free cloth. Replace MIG spool covers after each session.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes HAYNES 282 different from Solid-Solution Nickel Alloy Filler Wires?
HAYNES 282 is the only gamma-prime-strengthened filler in the Nicorex range. Solid-solution fillers (230-W, HASTELLOY X, Inconel 625) develop strength from alloying elements dissolved in the nickel matrix and are ready to use as-welded. HAYNES 282 contains Ti (2.1%) and Al (1.5%) that form ordered Ni₃(Al, Ti) precipitates during a mandatory two-step ageing treatment, giving 282 deposits ~30–40% higher strength.
The deliberately low gamma-prime volume fraction (~19% vs Waspaloy ~25% and R-41 ~48%) results in slower precipitation kinetics. R-41 and Waspaloy harden rapidly while residual stresses remain, causing strain-age cracking. HAYNES 282 hardens slowly, allowing stresses to relax.
Yes, it is mandatory for any structural application. In the as-welded condition, HAYNES 282 has only ~120 ksi UTS. The two-step ageing treatment increases UTS to ~160 ksi and YS to ~101 ksi. For non-structural seal welding where strength is not critical, age-hardening may be omitted.
There is no dedicated HAYNES 282 coated electrode. For SMAW of 282 base metal, users are advised to consult technical support to select the most suitable electrode. GTAW with matching ERNiCrCoMo-2 wire is preferred for critical structural joints.
Do not use 282 filler when post-weld heat treatment is impossible. Do not select it for aqueous corrosion service. SAW is not recommended. HAYNES 282 is a premium superalloy and is not economical where solid-solution alloys provide adequate strength.
