AWS ERTi-1 (Titanium Grade 1) TIG Filler Rod & MIG Wire Supplier in India
Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, Mumbai-based supplier and stockist of ERTi-1 titanium CP TIG and MIG filler metal, classified under AWS A5.16 / ASME SFA-5.16, It is also classified as UNS R50100 and AMS 4951. Every consignment ships with EN 10204/3.1B test certificates from the mill interstitial analysis.
ERTi-1 is the purest CP titanium solid wire in the AWS A5.16 family. Oxygen is the primary differentiator between CP grades, by capping oxygen at 0.10% maximum. ERTi-1 functions as the softest and most ductile grade available, ensuring superior formability and crack resistance for the most demanding precision welding and fabrication applications. Each step up adds roughly 70 MPa tensile strength but reduces ductility. With a minimum tensile of 240 MPa (35 ksi) and typical elongation around 24%, ERTi-1 delivers the highest formability of any titanium weld deposit. The alpha-phase microstructure contains 99.5%+ titanium with no alloying additions, giving it resistance to oxidising media, including seawater, chlorides, nitric acid, and wet chlorine gas.
TIG rods span 1.0 to 3.2 mm (914 or 1000 mm lengths, 5 kg sealed tubes); MIG spools range from 0.8 to 1.6 mm (5 kg and 10 kg vacuum-sealed). High-purity Argon shielding and a back purge are mandatory until the weld cools below 427°C (800°F) to ensure maximum joint integrity. This alloy is widely used in explosive cladding transition joints, medical devices, food processing, ultra-high-purity chemical piping, and electrolytic anodes.

AWS Classification Explained: What Does ERTi-1 Mean?
| Prefix / Designator | Meaning & Technical Significance |
|---|---|
| ER | Electrode / Rod: Solid filler metal for TIG (GTAW) or MIG (GMAW) welding. |
| Ti | Titanium Base: Indicates the filler is made of commercially pure titanium. |
| 1 | Grade 1 (CP-1): The highest purity and lowest strength grade of unalloyed titanium. |
The AWS designation breaks down as: ER = Electrode/Rod (electrode in GMAW or filler rod in GTAW/PAW); Ti = Titanium; 1 = Grade 1, the purest CP grade with the lowest interstitial content. CP grade numbering (1–4) maps directly to rising oxygen and strength

Industrial Welding Applications of Titanium Grade 1 ERTi-1 Filler Wire
- Explosive Cladding: Used as a soft interlayer between titanium and steel plates. It acts as a flexible cushion that absorbs heat-related movement, preventing the bonded layers from cracking during extreme temperature changes.
- Chemical Processing: Applied in high-purity piping for semiconductor manufacturing. It is chosen because its ultra-low iron content ensures the cleanest possible weld, preventing even trace contaminants from ruining sensitive chemical batches.
- Medical Devices: Utilised for surgical instruments and orthodontic wires. As the purest titanium grade available, it is favoured for its total biocompatibility and its ability to be easily shaped after the welding process.
- Food and Pharmaceutical: This form suits heat exchanger plates and storage tanks. It resists food acid and pharmaceutical corrosion. Most importantly, this type is safe for any human-grade meals.
- Artistic and Architectural: Used in sculptures, jewellery, and building facades. It is the preferred choice for designers because the welds remain soft and pliable, allowing the metal to be bent or shaped without breaking.
- Electrolytic Applications: Employed in the production of chlorine and sodium chlorate. It serves as a durable, rust-proof base for electrical coatings, ensuring efficient conductivity in harsh chemical environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Price of ERTi-1 Titanium Welding Wire per kg in India?
ERTi-1 titanium welding wire in India typically ranges from ₹4,000 to ₹8,000 per kg, depending on diameter, form, order quantity, and titanium sponge prices. Contact Nicorex Alloys for a current quotation.
What is the Difference Between ERTi-1 and ERTi-2?
What Shielding Gas is Required for Titanium Welding with ERTi-1?
How is Titanium Weld Quality Assessed Visually?
Titanium Weld Quality Assessed Visually by its colour. Straw and light gold are inferior, while silver and bright are fine. Grey or white powder indicates significant contamination that must be rejected, ground out, and rewelded. Blue or dark blue tints indicate rejection.
Can ERTi-1 be used to weld Grade 2 Titanium Base Metal?
Yes, as an undermatch. The weld deposit (~240 MPa) will be softer than the Grade 2 base metal (~345 MPa). This is desirable when the joint must be formed or bent after welding, or when thermal cycling risks fatigue cracking in a stronger weld.
When Should ERTi-1 NOT Be Used?
