ER 310MOD/ER310MOL Welding Wire

ER310Mod / ER310MoL Welding Wire Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified Mumbai-based supplier and stockist of ER310Mod (also sold under the designation ER310MoL) welding wire. We provide these wires manufactured in accordance with AWS A5.9 and EN 12072.

ER310Mod/ ER310MoL’s nominal chemistry, which is ~25% Cr, ~21% Ni, and ~0.13% C, produces a fully austenitic weld deposit with zero ferrite. The higher silicon content (0.50–0.65%) sets this modified variant apart by giving the weld pool better fluidity and cleaner slag release when joining heat-resistant cast steels. The wire carries UNS S31080 and W.Nr. 1.4842 designations. Standard austenitic filler metals break down fast when service hits 900°C and above. That is why heat-resistant steel fabricators turn to ER310Mod welding wire; the go-to 25Cr-20Ni filler metal built for joining and surfacing components that run at temperatures up to 1150°C (2100°F) in air. ER310Mod handles base metals such as 1.4841, 1.4845, and 1.4828 wrought grades, plus cast steel grades like GX40CrNiSi25-12 and ASTM A297 HF/HH/HK. It also works as a tough buffer layer beneath cap passes on chromium steel joints in sulphurous gas environments.

The wire ships as TIG rods (1.6–4.0 mm) and MIG spools (0.8–1.6 mm), supports all welding positions, and runs on DCEN (TIG) or DCEP (MIG) with 100% Argon or Ar+2%O₂ shielding. Scaling resistance reaches 1050°C in oxidising sulphurous atmospheres and 650°C in reducing sulphurous atmospheres. Every spool ships with EN 10204/3.1 mill test certificates.

Understanding the ER310MoL AWS Classification

The table below explains the designation breakdown of ER310 welding wire, highlighting its composition, classification, and supplier-specific naming conventions.
Designation Meaning
ER Electrode / Rod
310 25Cr–20Ni austenitic stainless steel composition
Mod Supplier-specific modification indicating silicon optimisation (higher Si for better weld pool control)
Mo Molybdenum ≤ 1.0%
L Low Carbon < 0.03%
The “Mod” suffix and “ER310MoL” are not official AWS classifications but supplier-driven naming variations. Both typically refer to AWS A5.9 ER310 with adjusted silicon or carbon levels. Always specify AWS A5.9 ER310 along with the exact trade name to ensure correct material supply.

Weld Deposit Chemical Composition of ER310Mod

The chemical composition of the ER310Mod weld deposit, alongside typical modified values, is listed in the table below:
Specification Carbon (C) Silicon (Si) Manganese (Mn) Chromium (Cr) Nickel (Ni) Molybdenum (Mo) Copper (Cu) Phosphorus (P) Sulphur (S)
AWS A5.9 ER310 (%) 0.08–0.15 0.30–0.65 1.0–2.5 25.0–28.0 20.0–22.5 0.75 max 0.75 max 0.03 max 0.03 max
Typical ER310Mod (%) 0.10–0.13 0.50–0.65 (modified upper range) 1.5–1.7 25.5–26.5 20.5–21.0 <0.50 <0.50 0.012 0.010
The 25Cr–21Ni balance places this weld deposit fully inside the austenitic zone on the zero delta ferrite. This means high ductility and strong oxidation resistance, but it also raises susceptibility to hot cracking if heat input is too high. Stringer beads with convex profiles are mandatory.

All-Weld-Metal Mechanical Properties of ER310Mod

The mechanical values for ER310Mod, including yield strength, elongation and tensile strength, are listed in the table below:
Specification Tensile Strength Yield Strength (0.2%) Elongation Impact Toughness
Typical Value 617 MPa (89,500 psi) 417 MPa (60,500 psi) 41% Good at room temperature
The 41% elongation reflects the fully austenitic structure. This level of ductility prevents fatigue cracking in components that face repeated thermal cycling between ambient and 1100°C+.

Industrial Welding Applications of ER310Mod

ER310Mod filler wire serves 3 primary sectors where weld deposits must resist scaling and thermal fatigue, and tough operating conditions:
Industrial Applications

Available Forms & Packaging

The table below outlines available ER310Mod supply forms, including diameter ranges and standard packaging options used across different welding processes:

FormDiameterPackaging
TIG Rods1.6, 2.0, 2.4, 3.2, 4.0 mm1000 mm straight lengths
MIG Wire0.8–1.6 mmD200 and B300 bobbins
SAW Wire—Drums

ER310Mod comes in several forms for TIG, MIG, and SAW welding. All types are hermetically sealed to keep out moisture, helping maintain weld quality, steady arc performance, and a lower risk of hydrogen-related defects during storage and use.

How to Order ER310Mod Welding Wire from Nicorex Alloys

To order ER310Mod/ ER310MoL welding wire, provide these 9 important details:

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the price of ER310Mod Welding Wire Per Kg in India?
Pricing of ER310MoD welding wire depends on diameter, spool size, and order quantity. ER310Mod is a speciality heat-resistant filler, so rates differ from standard stainless wires. Contact Nicorex Alloys for current pricing.
ER310Mod targets the upper Si range (0.50–0.65%) within the AWS A5.9 ER310 range. This improves weld pool fluidity and slag release when joining heat-resistant cast steels. The base composition range stays the same per AWS A5.9.
Yes. “ER310MoL” is an Indian market label sometimes used for a low-carbon variant of ER310 modified. Neither suffix is an official AWS classification. Always specify the AWS A5.9 ER310 class and confirm the exact C and Si targets with the manufacturer’s datasheet.
Scaling resistance reaches 1150°C (2100°F) in air, 1050°C in oxidising sulphurous atmospheres, and 650°C in reducing sulphurous atmospheres.
Yes. ER310 is a common choice for dissimilar joints between carbon/low-alloy steels and austenitic stainless steels because its fully austenitic deposit tolerates dilution from both sides. For lower-temperature dissimilar joints, ER309L is more often specified.
The Ferrite content of the ER 310MoD weld deposit is zero. The deposit is fully austenitic with no delta ferrite. This means hot cracking risk is real if the heat input is too high or the bead profiles are concave. Use the stringer bead technique with convex profiles.
The F-Number for this welding consumable is 6, as specified in ASME Section IX. The A-Number is 9, corresponding to a 25Cr-20Ni fully austenitic weld metal as defined in ASME Section IX.
Böhler FFB-IG and Thyssen Thermanit C Si are the main trade names. Both are classified as AWS A5.9 ER310 (modified) with W.Nr. 1.4842.
