Industrial Welding Applications of ERNiCrMo-14 (Inconel 686) Filler Wire
ERNiCrMo-14 is mainly used in harsh environments where standard NiCrMo filler metals fail under mixed oxidising, reducing and chloride attack.
Storage and Handling of ERNiCrMo-14 Welding Filler Wire
ERNiCrMo-14 is a solid bare wire, preventing moisture absorption. The main quality risk is surface contamination, which is critical for this ultra-low C/Si alloy.
- Store in original sealed packaging in a clean, dry environment. Temperature 15-30 0C, humidity below 60% RH.
- Keep wire away from carbon steel tools, machining oils, cutting fluids, paint, galvanised materials, copper tooling, lead-containing compounds and sulphur-bearing shop chemicals.
- Handle with clean, lint-free gloves and only use stainless steel or nickel-alloy tools, never carbon steel brushes or clamps.
- Store TIG rods in sealed tubes. After opening, keep them clean, and put unused rods back in the tube. Keep off the floor.
- Protect MIG spools from dust and airborne contamination, and always cover the spool on the wire feeder when not welding.
- Before welding: degrease base metal and filler surfaces with acetone or MEK. Remove all oxide, paint, marker and foreign material within 25mm of the joint.
- For ENiCrMo-14 SMAW electrodes (AWS A5.11), store them in heated rod ovens at 120-200°C after opening the sealed cans.
