Alloy C22 (UNS N06022, Werkstoff Nr. 2.4602) is a flat-rolled nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten material with a nominal balance of Ni 56%, Cr 22%, Mo 13%, and W 3%. As per ASTM B575, material under 4.76 mm (3/16″) is classified as sheet; and above is plate. Sheet thickness ranges from 0.1 to 4.76 mm; plate from 4.76 to 120 mm. Widths span 1000 to 2500 mm, with lengths up to 6000 mm for sheets and 12000 mm for plates. Standard sizes include 1000×2000, 1220×2440, 1500×3000, and 2000×4000 mm. Available forms are sheet, plate, strip, coil, foil, and shim in both hot-rolled and cold-rolled processes. Surface finishes include #1, #2D, #2B, and BA. The melting range falls between 1357-1399°C (2475–2550°F), and the maximum continuous service temperature is 677°C (1250°F). The key advantage of Hastelloy C22 lies in its higher chromium (22%). That extra Cr gives UNS N06022 sheet stronger resistance to oxidising media and chloride-induced pitting, while the Mo + W combination still covers reducing-acid service. This makes Alloy C22 the most versatile Ni-Cr-Mo alloy for mixed-acid environments and abnormal operating conditions. Target industries include chemical processing, FGD pollution control, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, power generation, and marine. Every shipment includes EN 10204/3.1B mill test certificates.

0.015% C and 0.08% Si prevent weld HAZ precipitation, keeping C22 fully corrosion-resistant as-welded.

Mill values typically exceed minimums by 10–15%. C22 is not age-hardenable.

Corrosion Resistance of Hastelloy C22 Sheet & Plate

Hastelloy C22 resists both oxidising and reducing media. Cr at 22% handles nitric acid, ferric chloride, and wet chlorine. Mo (13%) + W (3%) cover HCl and H₂SO₄. CPT in 6% FeCl₃ per ASTM G48 exceeds 85°C (C276: ~70°C).

C22 is not suited above 677°C (1250°F) where µ and P phases may form.

Hot Working, Cold Forming & Heat Treatment of Hastelloy C22

Hot work at 870-1230°C. Do not work below 870°C. C22 sheet suits all cold forming in annealed condition (45% elongation). Solution anneal at 1121°C (2050°F) minimum, rapid quench. Slow cooling through 538-1038°C risks µ and P phases.

Weld with ERNiCrMo-10 (AWS A5.14) for GTAW/GMAW or ENiCrMo-10 for SMAW. SAW is not recommended. No PWHT required.
