Incoloy 825 Round Bars & Rods

Incoloy 825 Round Bars & Rods - ASTM B425 UNS N08825 | Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 certified supplier of Incoloy 825 round bars and rods based in Mumbai, India. We provide these round bars according to the ASTM B425 / ASME SB425 standards.

UNS N08825 (Werkstoff 2.4858) is a nickel-iron-chromium alloy with additions of molybdenum, copper, and titanium. The nominal balance of Ni 38-46%, Cr 19.5-23.5%, Mo 2.5-3.5%, Cu 1.5-3.0%, and Ti 0.6-1.2% gives Alloy 825 bar broad-spectrum aqueous corrosion resistance across both reducing and oxidising acid environments. The molybdenum and copper combination resists sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. The high nickel content provides excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance. Titanium stabilises against intergranular corrosion (IGC) during welding or prolonged exposure at 540-760°C.

Bar diameters range from 3 to 500 mm with lengths from 1 to 6 m. Available forms include round, hex, flat, square, forged (ASTM B564), hollow, and threaded bars. We provide conditions like hot finished, cold drawn, or annealed (955°C / 1750°F). Surface finishes offered are black, bright, peeled, rough turned, and polished. Recommended service temperature is up to 540°C (1000°F). The alloy has a melting range of 1370-1400°C and is non-magnetic. It is approved to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and API 6CRA 825, and is supplied with EN 10204 3.1 MTC, PMI reports, and full traceability. Key industries that use Alloy 825 round bars and rods include chemical processing, oil & gas, pollution control, nuclear fuel processing, marine & offshore, and pickling & acid pollution

Mo + Cu provides dual acid resistance in reducing media (H₂SO₄, H₃PO₄). Ti stabilises the matrix against sensitisation, keeping weld HAZ free of IGC susceptibility.

Mechanical Properties of ASTM B425 Incoloy 825 Round Bar

Mechanical performance in the annealed state, detailing strength, ductility, and hardness benchmarks for Alloy 825 are listed in the table below:

Property Tensile Strength Yield 0.2% Offset Elongation Hardness
ASTM B425 Min 586 MPa (85 ksi) 241 MPa (35 ksi) 30%
Typical 690 MPa (100 ksi) 324 MPa (47 ksi) 45% ~75 HRB

Alloy 825 is NOT age-hardenable. Strengthening is by cold work only. For applications needing higher strength with similar corrosion resistance, consider Incoloy 925 (UNS N09925).

Acid Resistance & Aqueous Corrosion Performance of Incoloy 825 Bar

The primary advantage of Incoloy 825 round bar is broad-spectrum aqueous corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidising acids. Molybdenum and copper resists sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) across a wide concentration range; corrosion rate stays below 0.5 mm/yr in 20% H₂SO₄ at 79°C. In wet-process phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄) with fluorides and chlorides, Alloy 825 outperforms 316L and 904L. The chromium content handles nitric acid (HNO₃) up to 70% concentration.

High Ni (38-46%) gives outstanding chloride SCC resistance. Molybdenum aids pitting and crevice resistance in chloride media. Titanium stabilisation prevents IGC during welding or exposure at 540-760°C. It is NACE MR0175 listed for sour oil and gas service.

Machining, Hot Working & Welding of Incoloy 825 Round Bar

Machine with carbide tooling at 30-45 m/min using water-base coolants. Hot work (forge) at 983-1094°C; do not work below 927°C to avoid carbide precipitation. Weld by GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, or SAW using ERNiFeCr-1 (AWS A5.14) or ENiCrMo-3 (AWS A5.11). No preheat required. Post-weld anneal at 955°C for maximum corrosion resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Makes Incoloy 825 Different from Incoloy 800 for Bar Applications?

Alloy 825 contains Mo (2.5-3.5%), Cu (1.5-3.0%), and higher Ni (38-46%) for reducing acid and chloride SCC resistance. Alloy 800 (Ni 30-35%, no Mo/Cu) is for high-temperature oxidation, not aqueous corrosion.

Yes. Incoloy 825 bar is listed in NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 in the annealed condition with hardness ≤35 HRC. It resists SCC in H₂S environments.

No. Alloy 825 is solid-solution strengthened by cold work only. For an age-hardenable alternative, specify Incoloy 925 (N09925).

ERNiFeCr-1 (GTAW/GMAW) has a matching composition and is typically specified for welding. ENiCrMo-3 (SMAW) may be used where higher strength weld metal is required.

The maximum service temperature for Incoloy 825 bar is approximately 540°C (1000°F). Above this, phase changes reduce ductility and impact strength. For higher temperatures, Incoloy 800H/HT is more suitable.

Pricing varies with diameter, quantity, nickel/molybdenum market rates, and surface condition. Contact Nicorex Alloys for ex-Mumbai pricing and bulk discounts.

ASTM A262 Practice E (Strauss test) verifies freedom from intergranular corrosion susceptibility. Ti stabilisation in Alloy 825 provides inherent IGC resistance when properly annealed.
