Alloy 59 Round Bars

Alloy 59 Round Bars Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 certified supplier and stockist of Alloy 59 round bars based in Mumbai, India. We supply these round bars according to the ASTM B574 / ASME SB574 standard.

Nickel Alloy 59 (UNS N06059, Werkstoff 2.4605, EN NiCr23Mo16Al) is an ultra-low-carbon, ultra-low-silicon nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy. Developed by VDM Metals as Nicrofer 5923 hMo, this grade holds the lowest carbon (≤0.01%) and silicon (≤0.10%) of any Ni-Cr-Mo alloy, which virtually eliminates grain boundary precipitation during welding and hot working. Nominal composition consists of Ni ~59%, Cr 22–24%, Mo 15–16.5%, Fe ≤1.5%. The high molybdenum and high chromium combination resists both oxidising and reducing acids. Minimum yield strength reaches up to 340 MPa (49.3 ksi). Alloy 59 round bar is NACE MR-01-75 / ISO 15156 Level VII approved for the most demanding sour service. It is also BAM approved for hazardous goods transport.

Diameters of UNS N06059 round bar span from 3–500 mm in lengths to 6000 mm. Forms include round bar, hex bar, flat bar, square bar, rectangular bar, forged bar, hollow bar, and rods. We supply them in conditions like solution annealed at 1130–1160°C with water quench. Cold-worked bars are also available as per ASTM B574 (6.35–88.9 mm). Surface finishes include black, bright, peeled, ground, polished. ISO-V impact at –196°C exceeds 200 J/cm², suited for LNG and cryogenic duty. Melting range is 1310–1360°C. Alloy 59 density is 8.60 g/cm³. Key industries include flue gas desulfurisation, chemical processing, marine & offshore, geothermal energy, pharmaceutical, and ship diesel engines.

Chemical Composition of Alloy 59 Round Bars

Mechanical performance characteristics of Hastelloy X alloy in the solution heat-treated condition, including strength and behaviour under elevated temperatures:

ElementNickel (Ni)Chromium (Cr)Molybdenum (Mo)Iron (Fe)Aluminium (Al)Silicon (Si)Carbon (C)Cobalt (Co)Phosphorus (P)Sulphur (S)
Content (wt%)Balance22.0 – 24.015.0 – 16.51.5 max0.1 – 0.40.10 max0.01 max0.3 max0.015 max0.01 max
Ultra-low C (≤0.01%) and Si (≤0.10%) eliminate carbide and silicide precipitation at grain boundaries during welding. Ultra-low Fe (≤1.5%) produces a purer nickel matrix. Al (0.1–0.4%) acts as a deoxidiser for metallurgical cleanliness. Higher Mo than C22 (15–16.5% vs 12.5–14.5%) with matching Cr range gives combined reducing and oxidising acid resistance.

Mechanical Properties of Alloy 59 Round Bars and Rods

Alloy 59 mechanical properties like the tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness as per ASTM B574 / VdTÜV 505 are provided in the table:
Property Tensile (min) Yield Rp0.2 (min) Elongation (min) Impact –196°C
Sol. Annealed 690 MPa (100 ksi) 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) 40% ≥200 J/cm²
Cold Worked 862 MPa (125 ksi) 690 MPa (100 ksi) 15%

Alloy 59 holds the highest minimum yield (340 MPa) among standard Ni-Cr-Mo corrosion alloy bars: C22 at 310 MPa, C276 at 283 MPa, and C2000 at 276 MPa. Cryogenic impact at –196°C exceeds 200 J/cm², suited for LNG service.

Machining, Hot Working & Heat Treatment of Alloy 59 Round Bars

Alloy 59 machining is similar to other Ni-Cr-Mo alloys. It uses fresh carbide inserts with flood coolant and positive rake angles. Hot work at 1180–950°C with rapid water or air cooling. Clean surfaces before heating; avoid sulphur, lead, or phosphorus contamination.

Solution anneal at 1130–1160°C, then water quench. Weld by GTAW, GMAW, or SMAW using ERNiCrMo-13 (AWS A5.14) matching filler. Ultra-low Si and C give very low hot-crack susceptibility. Alloy 59 maintains full corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition without PWHT.

Industrial Applications of Alloy 59 Round Bars

Alloy 59 round bars are specified in 6 key industries demanding the highest thermal stability, zero sensitisation in the welded condition, and proven long-term corrosion resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Makes Alloy 59 Different from Hastelloy C276?
Alloy 59 has the lowest C (≤0.01%) and Si (≤0.10%) of any Ni-Cr-Mo alloy, eliminating grain boundary precipitation during welding. Higher Cr (22–24% vs 14.5–16.5%) gives better oxidising resistance while maintaining 15–16.5% Mo. C276 relies on tungsten (3–4.5%), which Alloy 59 omits.

Yes. ASTM B574 covers cold-finished bars (6.35–88.9 mm) with ≥862 MPa tensile and ≥690 MPa yield. They are suited for high-strength fasteners in sour service.

ASTM B574 / ASME SB574 covers Alloy 59 bar. DIN 17752 and VdTÜV 505 also apply. Cold-worked bars are explicitly covered.

ERNiCrMo-13 (AWS A5.14) matching filler for GTAW. It has a low hot-crack susceptibility due to ultra-low Si and C. GTAW (TIG) is preferred. Can be used as-welded without losing corrosion resistance.

The price of Alloy 59 round bar typically ranges from ₹5,500–10,000+ per kg, depending on diameter, condition, and testing scope. It costs more than C276/C22 due to ultra-low impurity requirements. Contact Nicorex Alloys for current pricing.
