ASTM A182 F53 (UNS S32750 ) Flanges

ASTM A182 F53 Flanges (UNS S32750) – Super Duplex 2507 Supplier in Mumbai

Nicorex Alloys is an importer, stockist, supplier, and trader of F53 super duplex flanges based in Mumbai, India. We supply UNS S32750 flanges, also identified as Super Duplex 2507 flanges, SAF 2507 flanges, and Werkstoff 1.4410 flanges, in compliance with the ASTM A182 / ASME SA182 standard.

ASTM A182 F53 flanges have a carry a nominal composition of 25% Cr, 7% Ni, 4% Mo, and 0.28% N (the highest nitrogen content). They have a PREN of 41 or higher. This is the threshold where super duplex classification begins. Minimum yield strength is 550 MPa (80 ksi). Tensile strength is 800 MPa with a minimum elongation of 15% and a hardness ceiling of 310 HB. These forged flanges feature a 50/50 austenite-ferrite microstructure that pairs extreme chloride pitting resistance with mechanical strength for pressure-critical piping. The CPT exceeds 50°C per ASTM G48, making F53 the default forging grade for offshore platform piping, subsea manifold connections, and desalination systems handling hot brine.

We supply these ASTM A182 SDSS F53 flanges in types that include WNRF, SORF, BLRF, SWRF, Threaded, Lap Joint, Long Weld Neck, RTJ, Spectacle Blind, and Reducing configurations. Sizes range from NPS 1/2″ to 24″ per ASME B16.5 and NPS 26″ to 60″ per ASME B16.47, in pressure classes 150 through 2500. Key industries include offshore oil & gas, subsea & seawater systems, desalination plants, chemical processing, mining, and other industries, as explained below.

Types of ASTM A182 Grade F53 Super Duplex Stainless Steel Flanges

F53 flanges are hot forged at 1050–1150°C and solution annealed at ≥1050°C with rapid water quench. The higher annealing temperature vs F60 (1020°C) reflects F53’s increased Cr and Mo, requiring complete dissolution of intermetallic precipitates. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PREN of ASTM A182 F53 and Why Does It Matter?
The PREN of ASTM A182 F53 is ≥ 41, calculated as PREN = %Cr + 3.3×%Mo + 16×%N. With typical mid-range values: PREN = 25 + 3.3(4.0) + 16(0.28) = 42.7. PREN predicts resistance to localised chloride pitting. Materials with PREN ≥ 40 qualify as super duplex for warm seawater and high-chloride brine service.
F55 contains tungsten (0.50–1.00% W) and higher copper (0.50–1.00% Cu), while F53 does not. Tungsten improves the stability of passive films in hot acidic media. Copper in F55 boosts sulphuric acid resistance. F53 is more widely available, less expensive, and the standard for offshore chloride service. F55 (Zeron 100) is preferred when sulphuric acid resistance or thermal stability is the priority.
Yes. F53 flanges resist pitting up to approximately 50°C based on CPT testing in 6% FeCl₃ as per ASTM G48. In actual seawater (~3.5% NaCl), the CPT is higher. F53 suits warm seawater cooling systems, Middle East desalination plants, and tropical offshore installations.

Standard consumables are ER2594 (AWS A5.9) for GTAW/TIG and E2594 (AWS A5.4) for SMAW. These are over-alloyed with ~9.5% Ni for adequate austenite formation. Shielding gas is Ar + 2% N₂ for root passes. Interpass temperature must stay below 150°C to prevent sigma phase.

Yes. UNS S32750 is approved under NORSOK M-630 MDS D54 (bars) and MDS D57 (forgings). Qualification requires ASTM A923 Methods A, B, and C, ASTM G48 pitting tests, and Charpy impact testing at −46°C, from a mill certified per NORSOK M-650 or ISO 17782.

The maximum hardness is 32 HRC (approximately 310 HBW) as per NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156. Some operator specs (Shell DEP, Saudi Aramco SAES) reduce this to 28 HRC. The material must be solution-annealed and water-quenched with documented ferrite content of 40–60%.

F53 flanges provide approximately 80% of Inconel 625 or Hastelloy C276 corrosion resistance properties at 40–50% of the cost. F53 is preferred when chloride pitting and SCC drive material selection. Nickel alloys are necessary for concentrated acid resistance, temperatures above 316°C, or high-pressure sour gas conditions beyond duplex capability.
