What are Inconel Flanges?

Inconel flanges are forged piping connectors that form leak-proof, bolted joints between pipes, valves, and equipment. The nickel content (58–76%) resists reducing conditions. Chromium (15–23%) resists oxidation. Grades with molybdenum and niobium add pitting and fatigue strength. These flanges resist chloride stress cracking and scale at high temperatures. They are made through closed-die forging and CNC machining with solution annealing as standard heat treatment.

Available Grades of Inconel Flanges

Nicorex Alloys stocks Inconel Alloy flanges in 4 grades, each for a specific temperature or corrosion challenge.

Inconel 600 Flange

This nickel-chromium alloy (76% Ni, 15.5% Cr) has an oxidation resistance up to 2000°F. It resists chloride stress cracking. Inconel 600 is widely used in furnace parts, chemical vessels, and nuclear service.

Inconel 625 Flange

This is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy that offers a fatigue strength from cryogenic to 1800°F. It is NACE MR0175 listed. Inconel 625 is the most used grade for oil and gas, marine, and chemical flanges.

Inconel 718 Flange

Inconel 718 is a precipitation-hardenable alloy with yield strength ~1035 MPa (aged) and creep resistance up to 1300°F (704°C). It is used in tough operating conditions for gas turbine and aerospace flanges.

Inconel 800 Flange

Inconel 800/800H/800HT flanges are nickel‑iron‑chromium alloy flanges designed for high-temperature service. These flanges offer excellent resistance to oxidation, carburisation, and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Alloy 800 series flanges are ideal for furnace, petrochemical, and heat‑treatment applications up to about 900°C.

Inconel 825 Flange

Inconel 825 flanges are nickel‑iron‑chromium‑molybdenum‑copper alloy flanges. They provide good resistance to sulfuric, phosphoric, and many other aggressive acids, as well as stress‑corrosion cracking and pitting in chloride‑containing environments. Their balanced composition provides good strength and long‑term corrosion protection in chemical processing, oil and gas, and pollution control applications from mildly elevated to moderately high temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the temperature range for Inconel flanges?
Inconel 625 works from cryogenic to 1800°F (982°C). Inconel 600 serves up to 2000°F (1093°C). Inconel 718 handles up to 1300°F (704°C).
Inconel 625 in solution-annealed condition meets NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour gas (H₂S) service.
ASTM B564 / ASME SB564 covers all Inconel flange grades. Dimensions follow ANSI/ASME B16.5 for NPS ½–24 and B16.47 for NPS 26–60.
Use ERNiCrMo-3 filler for Inconel 625, ERNiCr-3 for Inconel 600, and ERNiFeCr-2 for Inconel 718, as specified in AWS A5.14. You can weld using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), or SMAW (stick). Keep interpass temperature below 200°F (93°C).
Inconel 600 excels in oxidation resistance for nuclear and furnace use. Inconel 625 adds molybdenum and niobium for better pitting resistance and higher strength in acidic and seawater service.
