Nickel Alloy 200 / 201 Sheets & Plates Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified supplier and stockist of Nickel 200 and Nickel 201 sheets and plates based in Mumbai, India. We supply these commercially pure nickel flat products according to ASTM B162 / ASME SB162 standards.

Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) and Nickel 201 (UNS N02201) are wrought, commercially pure nickel grades with a minimum 99.0% nickel content. The sole difference between the two lies in carbon: Nickel 200 permits up to 0.15% C, while Nickel 201 limits carbon at 0.02% max. That distinction controls which grade suits a given service temperature. Above 315°C (600°F), higher carbon in Nickel 200 triggers graphitisation at grain boundaries, so Nickel 201 becomes the required choice for high-temperature duty.

Both grades offer high thermal conductivity. Nickel 200 is rated at 70.2 W/m•K and Nickel 201 at 79.3 W/m•K at 21°C. They also provide strong electrical conductivity and outstanding resistance to caustic alkalis, particularly sodium hydroxide. Sheet thickness ranges from 0.5 to 4.76 mm; plate thickness ranges from 4.76 to 150 mm. Material in the 4.76-6.35 mm overlap zone may be furnished as either form per ASTM B127. Widths span 1000 to 2500 mm, with custom sizes on request. Forms stocked include sheet, plate, coil, strip, circle, perforated sheet, chequered plate, and foil in hot rolled, cold rolled.

Key industries include chemical processing, chlor-alkali production, electronics, food and pharmaceutical processing, marine engineering, aerospace, and battery technology. Every shipment carries EN 10204/3.1 mill test certificates with full heat-number traceability.

Nickel 200 vs Nickel 201 – Carbon Content and Service Temperature

The sole chemical difference is carbon: Nickel 200 allows 0.15% max; Nickel 201 restricts it to 0.02% max. All other elements are identical. Above 315°C (600°F), carbon in Nickel 200 migrates to grain boundaries and forms graphite (graphitisation), causing embrittlement and loss of ductility. Nickel 201’s low carbon prevents this. ASME Section VIII approves Nickel 200 to 315°C and Nickel 201 to 677°C. Many mills supply dual-certified material meeting both chemistries.

Parameter Nickel 200 (N02200) Nickel 201 (N02201)
Max Carbon 0.15% 0.02%
Max Service (ASME) 315°C (600°F) 677°C (1250°F)
Graphitisation Risk Yes, above 315°C No
Tensile (Annealed) 380 MPa (55 ksi) min 345 MPa (50 ksi) min
Preferred Use General corrosion, moderate temp High-temp caustic, electrochemical

Chemical Composition of Nickel Alloy 200/201 as per ASTM B162

Corrosion Resistance of Nickel 200/201 Sheets & Plates

Nickel 200/201 provides excellent resistance in caustic soda/sodium hydroxide (NaOH). At concentrations up to 50% and temperatures to 155°C, corrosion rates stay below 0.5 mpy. This makes it the standard material for caustic evaporators and NaOH handling. Nickel 201 is preferred for high-temperature caustic concentration above 315°C.

Good resistance to deaerated reducing acids (HCl, H₂SO₄) at moderate conditions. In anhydrous (dry) HF gas, performance is excellent. However, Nickel 200/201 is not recommended for moist or aqueous hydrofluoric acid. For wet HF service, specify Monel 400. It is not suitable for nitric acid or strongly oxidising solutions. It provides low corrosion in marine and rural atmospheres; caution in stagnant seawater, where pitting may occur under biofouling. It is resistant to chloride SCC (stress corrosion cracking). Nickel 201 handles dry Cl₂ and HCl gas in controlled, dry conditions.

Fabrication, Forming & Welding of Alloy 200/201 Sheets & Plates

It is recommended to hot work Alloy 200/201 sheets and plates at 870–1230°C (1600–2250°F). Do not work below 870°C to avoid intergranular cracking. Do not exceed 1232°C to avoid grain growth. Cold forming is comparable to mild steel; Nickel 201’s lower work-hardening rate makes it better for spinning. Stress relief at 704-871°C (1300-1600°F) between forming steps. Full anneal at 760-980°C (1400-1800°F) with rapid air cooling restores full ductility. Weld with GTAW, GMAW, or SMAW using ERNi-1 (AWS A5.14) for GTAW/GMAW and ENi-1 (AWS A5.11) for SMAW. Avoid oxyacetylene on Nickel 201 (carbon pickup risk). Clean all surfaces before welding to prevent sulphur contamination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Approximate Price of Nickel 200/201 Sheet per Kg in India?

Prices typically range from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 per kg, varying with thickness, finish, quantity, and LME nickel rates. Contact Nicorex Alloys for current pricing.

Switch to Nickel 201 above 315°C (600°F). Higher carbon in Nickel 200 causes graphitisation and embrittlement beyond this threshold. Nickel 201 is approved under ASME Section VIII up to 677°C (1250°F).

ASTM B162 covers rolled nickel (UNS N02200) and low-carbon nickel (UNS N02201) plate, sheet, and strip. The ASME equivalent is SB162 for pressure vessel code applications.

Yes. Use ERNi-1 for GTAW/GMAW and ENi-1 for SMAW, per AWS A5.14 / A5.11. Don’t use oxyacetylene welding on Nickel 201 due to carbon pickup risk.

Nickel 200/201 has moderate resistance in deaerated, dilute sulfuric acid at ambient temperatures. In 5% H₂SO₄ at 60°C, corrosion is approximately 10 mpy. Hastelloy C276 or Alloy 20 suits severe service better.

Every shipment includes a Mill Test Certificate per EN 10204 3.1 confirming composition, mechanical properties, and heat number traceability. PMI and third-party inspection reports are available on request.

Nickel 200/201 (99.0% min Ni) provides superior NaOH resistance compared to Monel 400 (~67% Ni, ~30% Cu). Monel 400 handles hydrofluoric acid and seawater better. For pure caustic service, Nickel 200/201 is preferred.
