What are Super Duplex Steel Sheets and Plates?

Super Duplex sheets and plates are flat products from high-alloy duplex stainless steels with a two-phase (austenite + ferrite) structure and PREN above 40. Sheets are under 6 mm thick for lining work. Plates are 6 mm and above for pressure vessels and subsea equipment. Solution annealing at 1050°C minimum with rapid quenching maintains the correct phase balance.

It mainly consists of chromium (24-26%), nickel (6-8%), molybdenum (3-4%), and nitrogen (0.24-0.32%). S32760 adds tungsten and copper for reducing-acid resistance. Compared to Duplex 2205, Super Duplex has higher PREN (above 40 vs 34-36), yield strength (~80 ksi vs ~65 ksi), and CPT (above 50°C vs ~35°C).

Available Grades of Super Duplex Steel Sheets & Plates

Super Duplex sheets and plates are available in 3 grades.

Super Duplex 2507 Sheet & Plate

Super Duplex 2507 is the most widely used super duplex grade with 25% Cr, 7% Ni, 4% Mo, and PREN of ~42. It has a yield strength of 80 ksi (550 MPa) minimum.

Super Duplex S32760 Sheet & Plate

Super duplex S32760 contains tungsten (~0.5-1%) and copper (~0.5-1%) for resistance to reducing acids and sour gas cracking. It has a PREN above 40. This grade is used on offshore platforms and in FGD systems.

Super Duplex S32950 Sheet & Plate

Super duplex S32950 contains 26% Cr, 3.5% Mo, 4.5% Ni. It is used in specific applications requiring enhanced corrosion resistance to oxidising media.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Super Duplex Steel Sheet and Plate?
A Super Duplex sheet and plate is a flat-form stainless steel product with a dual-phase (austenite + ferrite) microstructure and a PREN greater than 40. It offers significantly higher strength and corrosion resistance than standard duplex 2205 in seawater and aggressive chloride environments.
Super Duplex 2507 has more chromium (25% vs 22%), molybdenum (4% vs 3%), and nitrogen. This gives PREN above 40 versus 34-36, yield ~80 ksi versus ~65 ksi, and CPT above 50°C versus ~35°C.
ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240 covers plate, sheet, and strip for UNS S32750 and S32760.
S32760 adds tungsten and copper for better reducing-acid and sour gas resistance. Both have PREN above 40.
Yes. GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, and FCAW work with ER2594 filler and 2-3% nitrogen shielding gas. Keep heat input between 0.5 and 1.5 kJ/mm.
Not recommended above 300°C (572°F) for extended service due to embrittlement. Impact toughness holds to -50°C.
