Hastelloy C22 Fasteners

Hastelloy C22 Fasteners Supplier in Mumbai, India – UNS N06022 / Werkstoff 2.4602

Nicorex Alloys is a supplier of Hastelloy C22 fasteners in Mumbai, India. Hastelloy C22 fasteners are made from ASTM B574 bar stock, and forgings are produced to ASTM B564.

This grade carries the highest chromium content (22%) in the Ni-Cr-Mo C-family. That extra Cr gives Alloy C-22 bolts stronger passivation in oxidising environments. In harsh process environments containing ferric ions, cupric chlorides, or dissolved oxygen, weld heat-affected-zone (HAZ) corrosion often causes bolt failure. In these conditions, UNS N06022 is the preferred fastener material. Its balanced composition of about 56% nickel, 22% chromium, 13% molybdenum, and 3% tungsten protects against both oxidising and reducing acids. However, its standout advantage is exceptional resistance in oxidising media, making Hastelloy C22 fasteners especially reliable for critical bolted joints.

They typically have a tensile strength of 690 MPa (100 ksi), a yield strength of 310 MPa (45 ksi), and 45% elongation. These fasteners are available as hex bolts, stud bolts, socket head cap screws, nuts, lock nuts, washers, threaded rods, U-bolts, set screws, and eye bolts. They are supplied in standard sizes from M6 to M100 (1/4″ to 4″) with UNC, UNF, and metric thread options. They are approved to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 and have a PREN above 65, giving better pitting corrosion resistance than other nickel-based super alloys. Very low carbon (0.015%) and silicon (0.08%) prevent weld heat-affected-zone precipitation, so weld studs keep full corrosion resistance without post-weld heat treatment. Operations are certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.

Hastelloy C22 is NOT listed in ASTM F468. Fasteners are machined from ASTM B574 bar stock and tested to the bar material’s mechanical requirements. Forgings conform to ASTM B564. Always specify the bar specification and UNS N06022 when ordering.

Chemical Composition of Hastelloy C22 Fasteners

According to ASTM B574 and Haynes International data, Hastelloy C22 fasteners follow the specified chemical composition and quality standards:
Element Nickel (Ni) Chromium (Cr) Molybdenum (Mo) Tungsten (W) Iron (Fe) Cobalt (Co) Vanadium (V) Carbon (C) Silicon (Si) Copper (Cu)
Composition (%) Balance (~56) 20.0–22.5 12.5–14.5 2.5–3.5 2.0–6.0 2.5 max 0.35 max 0.015 max 0.08 max 0.50 max
22% Cr is the highest in the C-family (C276: 16%, C2000: 23% but with Cu trade-off). Mo (13%) + W (3%) still cover reducing-acid and crevice corrosion service. Ultra-low C (0.015%) and Si (0.08%) prevent carbide and intermetallic precipitation in weld HAZ zones.

Mechanical Properties of Hastelloy C22 Fasteners

Mechanical properties are based on ASTM B574 solution-annealed bar, defining tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness for Hastelloy C22 fasteners:
Property Tensile Strength (min) Yield 0.2% (min) Elongation (min) Hardness (max)
Value 690 MPa (100 ksi) 310 MPa (45 ksi) 45% 241 HB

C22’s 310 MPa yield (vs C276’s 283 MPa) provides 10% higher achievable bolt preload. This matters for high-pressure flange sealing in pharmaceutical reactor closures and ASME Section VIII pressure vessels. The 45% elongation gives stud bolts and threaded rods exceptional tolerance to thermal cycling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Hastelloy C22 over C276 for Fasteners?
Choose C22 when the environment is primarily oxidising (ferric ions, dissolved O₂, cupric chlorides), when weld HAZ corrosion is the failure mode, or for pharmaceutical/high-purity applications. C276 is better for reducing acids (HCl, H₂SO₄) and mixed environments. C22 also offers 10% higher yield (310 vs 283 MPa).

C22 fasteners are machined from ASTM B574 (UNS N06022) bar stock. No separate ASTM F468 is listed for C22. Forgings conform to ASTM B564. Always specify the bar specification and required mechanical properties when ordering.

Approximately 65+, calculated as %Cr + 3.3 × %Mo + 16 × %N. This exceeds C276 (PREN ~60) and Inconel 625 (~51), making C22 the most pitting-resistant of the standard Ni-Cr-Mo alloys.
Yes. C22 was engineered to eliminate preferential weld HAZ corrosion. The 0.015% C and 0.08% Si prevent carbide and intermetallic precipitation. Weld studs retain equal corrosion resistance across the base metal and weld zone without PWHT.
Pair C22 bolts with C22 nuts for maximum corrosion consistency. For anti-galling benefit, use a C22 bolt with a cold-worked C22 nut (hardness differential reduces thread seizure). Cross-pairing with C276 nuts is metallurgically acceptable but introduces galvanic considerations in aggressive media.
