Hastelloy X Fasteners

Hastelloy X Fasteners Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001/ISO 14001 certified supplier, importer, and stockist of Hastelloy X fasteners (Alloy X or Nicrofer 4722) in Mumbai, India. We offer a wide variety of strong Hastelloy X parts made according to ASTM B572 standards, which guarantee excellent resistance to oxidation and maintain their strength for important high-temperature uses in aerospace and gas turbine parts.

Hastelloy X is not a corrosion alloy. It is a high-temperature alloy built for oxidising atmospheres between 650-1100°C (1200-2000°F). It is engineered to withstand carburising and nitriding atmospheres; Hastelloy X fasteners are the primary choice for hot-section service. Hastelloy X fasteners retain structural integrity and oxidation resistance at temperatures where those grades lose all strength. Gas turbine combustor bolts, parts for industrial furnaces, and supports for petrochemical reformer tubes need this alloy because Hastelloy X fasteners can handle the extreme heat in these areas for a long time.

Hastelloy X fasteners, including hex and stud bolts, socket head cap screws, nuts, washers, threaded rods, U-bolts, and eye bolts, are produced using UNS N06002 (Werkstoff 2.4665). The alloy combines approximately 47% nickel, 22% chromium, 18.5% iron, 9% molybdenum, 1% cobalt, 0.6% tungsten, and a remarkably high level of carbon content between 0.05% and 0.15% to enhance creep resistance. The parts are required to provide a yield strength of at least 240 MPa (35 ksi) with about 35% elongation, with a tensile strength of about 690 MPa (100 ksi) at room temperature and 490 MPa at 649°C. Sizes vary from M6 to M100 (1/4” to 4”). Specifications include ASTM B572 for bar stock and AMS 5754 for aerospace.

Chemical Composition of Hastelloy X Fasteners

The chemical composition as per ASTM B572 can be viewed in the table below, which outlines the necessary alloy composition for high-temperature stability.
Element Nickel (Ni) Chromium (Cr) Iron (Fe) Molybdenum (Mo) Cobalt (Co) Tungsten (W) Carbon (C) Silicon (Si) Manganese (Mn) Phosphorus (P) Sulphur (S)
Composition (%) Balance (~47) 20.5–23.0 17.0–20.0 8.0–10.0 0.5–2.5 0.2–1.0 0.05–0.15 1.0 max 1.0 max 0.04 max 0.03 max
18.5% iron is dramatically higher than C-family alloys (2-7% Fe). This strengthens the solid-solution matrix for high-temperature service. 0.05–0.15% carbon is intentionally 10-15× higher than C276/C22 (0.01% max). Carbon forms grain boundary carbides that pin the microstructure and resist creep at elevated temperatures. The Cr-Fe-Mo-Co-W chemistry is optimised for oxidation resistance, not wet acid corrosion.

Mechanical Properties of Hastelloy X Fasteners

The mechanical properties of the solution-annealed alloy at 1177°C can be viewed below to ensure that the project meets the necessary specifications for room-temperature strength.
Property Tensile Strength (min) Yield Strength 0.2% (min) Elongation (min) Hardness (max)
Value 655 MPa (100 ksi) 240 MPa (35 ksi) 35% 241 HB (~96 HRB)
The information provided can be used to determine the elevated temperature properties, which are an essential consideration for buyers of fasteners that are exposed to extreme temperatures.
Temperature538°C (1000°F)649°C (1200°F)760°C (1400°F)871°C (1600°F)
Tensile (MPa)~530~490~430~260
Yield (MPa)~210~205~195~170

Retained tensile of 490 MPa at 649°C makes Hastelloy X suitable for gas turbine combustor bolting. At that temperature, C276 and C22 would have lost most structural integrity.

Surface Finish and Coating Options for Hastelloy X Fasteners

  • Plain / Self-Colour: Standard for high-temperature service (coatings burn off)
  • Passivated: Acid passivation for storage/shipping corrosion prevention
  • Silver Plated: High-temperature anti-seize for turbine bolting (effective to 760°C)
  • Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS₂): Dry lubricant for high-temp thread lubrication
  • Ceramic Coated: Thermal barrier coating for extreme radiant heat protection
  • Anti-Seize: Nickel-based anti-seize for assembly; silver-based for sustained high-temp

CRITICAL: PTFE coatings are NOT suitable for Hastelloy X service temperatures (PTFE degrades above 260°C). Nylon lock features will melt. For high-temperature service, use all-metal lock designs and silver or MoS₂ thread lubricants only.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Price of Hastelloy X Fasteners per Kg in India?

Prices range ₹3,000–₹6,500/kg depending on type, size, and specification. AMS 5754 aerospace-grade fasteners carry a 15–20% premium over ASTM B572 due to additional testing and certification.

Yes. Hastelloy X is the industry standard for combustor zone fasteners: combustion can liners, transition ducts, flame holders, and afterburners. Oxidation resistance, thermal fatigue strength, and ductility retention at 650–870°C make it the reference alloy for hot-section bolting.

C-family alloys (C276, C22, C2000) use ultra-low carbon (0.01%) to prevent carbide precipitation that degrades wet corrosion resistance. Hastelloy X contains 0.05–0.15% C because carbide precipitation strengthens the alloy at high temperature by pinning grain boundaries and resisting creep. In dry, high-temp oxidising service, higher carbon is an advantage.

Yes. The Ni-Cr-Fe combination resists carbon pickup from endothermic gas, natural gas, and other carbon-bearing furnace atmospheres. This makes Hastelloy X ideal choice for heat-treat fixture bolts, retort studs, and basket fasteners where standard 304/316 stainless would embrittle.
