Inconel 625 Sheets & Plates

Inconel 625 Sheets & Plates Supplier & Stockist in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 certified supplier and stockist of Inconel 625 sheets and plates. We provide these sheets and plates in compliance with the ASTM B443 / ASME SB-443 standards.

Alloy 625 (UNS N06625, Werkstoff 2.4856) is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium material that derives its strength from solid-solution hardening by molybdenum and niobium. It consists of approximately 58% nickel, 20-23% chromium, 8-10% molybdenum, and 3.15-4.15% niobium. Nickel Alloy 625 sheet and plate don’t need age-hardening heat treatment. This mechanism gives them a broad corrosion resistance profile, covering chloride pitting, crevice attack, seawater, and mixed acids. These sheets are plates are listed under NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour gas service.

ASTM B443 defines two grades: Grade 1 (annealed at 871°C, higher room-temperature strength) and Grade 2 (solution annealed at 1093°C, optimised for elevated-temperature creep and corrosion). AMS 5599 is the aerospace specification. Sheet thickness spans 0.3–6.0 mm, while plate thickness spans 6.0–50 mm. Widths are 1000–2500 mm, and lengths are 2000–12000 mm. Available forms include hot-rolled plate, cold-rolled sheet, strip, coil, foil, shim, clad plate, and perforated sheet.  UNS N06625 sheets and plates are used in industries like oil and gas, marine, chemical, aerospace, nuclear, and power generation. We ship each Inconel 625 sheet and plate order with EN 10204/3.1B MTC, PMI, and full traceability.

Chemical Composition of Inconel 625 Sheets & Plates

The chemical composition of Inconel 625 sheets and plates, as per ASTM B443 are covered in the table below:
Element Nickel (Ni) Chromium (Cr) Molybdenum (Mo) Niobium + Tantalum (Nb+Ta) Iron (Fe) Carbon (C) Manganese (Mn) Silicon (Si) Aluminium (Al) Titanium (Ti) Cobalt (Co) Phosphorus (P) Sulphur (S)
WT% 58.0 min 20.0 – 23.0 8.0 – 10.0 3.15 – 4.15 5.0 max 0.10 max 0.50 max 0.50 max 0.40 max 0.40 max 1.0 max 0.015 max 0.015 max
Mo at 8–10% and Nb+Ta at 3.15–4.15% provide solid-solution strengthening and stabilise the matrix against intergranular corrosion in the as-welded state. Chromium at 20–23% forms a protective oxide layer for oxidation resistance to 982°C (1800°F). Niobium prevents post-weld sensitisation, eliminating the need for PWHT.

Mechanical Properties of Inconel 625 Sheet & Plate

As per ASTM B443, Grade 1 and Grade 2 mechanical properties, like tensile and yield strength, elongation, and hardness, are covered in the table below:
Property Tensile Strength (min) Yield 0.2% Offset (min) Elongation (min) Density Melting Range
Grade 1 (Ann. 871°C) 827 MPa (120 ksi) 414 MPa (60 ksi) 30% 8.44 g/cm³ 1290–1350°C (2350–2460°F)
Grade 2 (Sol. Ann. 1093°C) 690 MPa (100 ksi) 276 MPa (40 ksi)

Grade 1 retains work-hardening from the lower anneal temperature, giving 827 MPa (120 ksi) tensile for service below 593°C. Grade 2 dissolves secondary phases at 1093°C for superior creep and corrosion at elevated temperatures. Specify Grade 1 for room-temperature structural use; Grade 2 for high-temperature or corrosion-critical service.

Corrosion & Environmental Performance of Inconel 625 Flat Products

Alloy 625 sheet and plate resist chloride pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking across a wide pH and temperature range. Cr at 20–23% handles oxidising media; Mo at 8–10% covers reducing acids. Nb stabilisation prevents intergranular attack in the as-welded condition, critical for fabricated vessels that cannot receive PWHT in the field.

In seawater, UNS N06625 plate shows pitting resistance superior to 316L (CPT: ∼80°C vs ∼25°C). Compared to Hastelloy C-276, Inconel 625 provides higher strength (827 vs 785 MPa) and Nb-stabilised weld integrity. C-276 is superior in severe reducing acids (HCl, hot H₂SO₄) due to higher Mo and W. For marine, sour gas, and mixed-acid service, Alloy 625 is the more versatile flat product.

Welding & Fabrication Guidelines for Inconel 625 Sheet & Plate

Weld using GTAW (preferred for sheet gauge), GMAW, or SMAW. Use ERNiCrMo-3 (FM 625) as filler for GTAW/GMAW, and ENiCrMo-3 for SMAW. FM 625 is also the standard dissimilar-metal filler for joining carbon steel to stainless or nickel alloys. No preheat required. PWHT is not typically needed because Nb prevents sensitisation, and solid-solution strengthening is unaffected by the weld thermal cycle.

Minimise heat input on the thin sheet. Clean all joint surfaces to remove sulphur and phosphorus before welding. Interpass below 150°C. Stress relief at 870–900°C if code requires it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is the Difference Between ASTM B443 Grade 1 and Grade 2?

Grade 1 is annealed at 871°C, and retains work-hardening for 827 MPa (120 ksi) tensile.
Grade 2 is solution annealed at 1093°C, and dissolves secondary phases for 690 MPa (100 ksi) with superior creep and corrosion. Use Grade 1 below 593°C; Grade 2 for high-temperature service.

Yes. It has a CPT of ∼80°C in chloride media, chloride SCC immunity, and Nb-stabilised as-welded integrity. This makes UNS N06625 the standard for marine cladding and splash-zone panels.

ERNiCrMo-3 (FM 625) is used for GTAW/GMAW, and ENiCrMo-3 for SMAW. It is also used as a dissimilar-metal filler between carbon steel and stainless steel. PWHT is generally not required.

Inconel 625 provides higher strength (120 vs 115 ksi) and Nb-stabilised weld integrity with NACE sour service compliance. C-276 is superior in severe reducing acids (HCl, hot H₂SO₄) due to higher molybdenum and tungsten. Choose 625 for marine and sour gas; C-276 for severe reducing acids.

Yes. Both Grade 1 and Grade 2 in annealed condition meet NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour gas service.
