Hastelloy C22 Pipes & Tubes – ASTM B622 / B619 / B626 UNS N06022 Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified supplier of Hastelloy C22 seamless pipes, welded pipes, seamless tubes, and welded tubes, based in Mumbai, India.  We supply these products manufactured to ASTM B622, ASTM B619, and ASTM B626.

Alloy C22 (UNS N06022, Werkstoff 2.4602) is a corrosion‑resistant nickel alloy containing about 56% nickel, 22% chromium, 13% molybdenum, and 3% tungsten. Its balanced Ni‑Cr‑Mo‑W composition lets it perform well in both reducing and oxidising acids, combining the strengths of C276 and C‑4. The relatively high chromium content (22%) is the key advantage, as it forms a strong, stable passive film that protects the metal in harsh oxidising environments. This includes media such as oxidising acids, ferric chloride solutions, and wet chlorine gas. C22 also offers an exceptional critical crevice temperature of 80°C in acidified 6% FeCl₃, the highest among commercial Ni‑Cr‑Mo alloys.

Hastelloy C22 pipes have a minimum tensile strength of 690 MPa (100 ksi) and 45% elongation in the solution-annealed condition, meaning they are strong yet ductile. Sizes range from NPS 1/2″ to 24″ in wall thicknesses from Schedule 5S to XXS. The alloy is non-magnetic and has a density of 8.69 g/cm³. Because the material resists weld sensitisation, no post-weld heat treatment is required, which simplifies fabrication in the shop or field. C22 pipes are widely used in chemical processing, FGD systems, pharmaceuticals, nuclear fuel reprocessing, oil and gas, pulp and paper, and marine service.

Chemical Composition of Hastelloy C22 Pipes & Tubes

The chemical composition of Hastelloy C22 (UNS N06022) per ASTM B622 balances 22% Cr for oxidising-environment stability with 13% Mo for reducing-acid resistance.
Property UNS Werkstoff Nr. EN DIN JIS GOST ISO
Designation N10276 2.4819 NiMo16Cr15W 17751 NW 0276 ХН65МВУ (EP760) 6207 (tube)
With 22% Cr vs 16% in C276, C22 forms a stronger passive film in oxidising media (nitric acid, ferric/cupric chloride, wet chlorine), raising CCT from 55°C to 80°C. Its 13% Mo vs 16% makes it slightly less resistant in strongly reducing acids but comparable in mixed conditions. Ultra‑low C (≤0.01%) and Si (≤0.08%) prevent sensitisation, avoiding post‑weld heat treatment.

Mechanical Properties of C22 Hastelloy Pipes & Tubes

The mechanical properties of C22 Hastelloy Pipes and Tubes, along with their tensile strength, elongation and yield strength, are listed as follows:
Property Tensile Strength, min Yield Strength 0.2%, min Elongation, min Hardness, max (sour service) Charpy V-Notch Impact, typical (RT) Charpy V-Notch Impact, typical (-196°C) Modulus of Elasticity
Value / Condition 690 MPa (100 ksi) — ASTM B622 / B619 / B626, RT 310 MPa (45 ksi) — ASTM B622 / B619 / B626, RT 45% — ASTM B622 / B619 / B626, RT 241 HBW (≤35 HRC) — NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 568 J (419 ft-lbf) — RT 469 J (346 ft-lbf) — −196°C 206 GPa (29.9 × 10⁶ psi) — RT
C22 pipe yield (310 MPa min) exceeds C276 pipe (283 MPa min) by 27 MPa, allowing thinner wall selection in ASME B31.3 pressure design.

Physical Properties of Hastelloy C22 Pipes & Tubes

Physical properties of Hastelloy C22 pipes and tubes, including density, melting range, thermal conductivity, magnetic properties, and more, are covered in the table below:
Property Density Melting Range Specific Heat Thermal Conductivity Modulus of Elasticity CTE (24–100°C) Magnetic Permeability Electrical Resistivity
Value 8.69 g/cm³ (0.314 lb/in³) 1357–1399°C (2475–2550°F) 414 J/kg·°C at 50°C 10.1 W/m·°C at 50°C 206 GPa (29.9 × 10⁶ psi) at RT 12.4 µm/m·°C Non-magnetic 1.14 µΩ·m at RT
C22’s pipe weight factor (1.107) is 2% lower than C276 (1.129). The CTE of 12.4 µm/m·°C is lower than that of austenitic stainless steels (~16), reducing thermal expansion stress. C22 is non-magnetic, suitable for instrumentation lines and subsea metering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main advantage of Hastelloy C22 Pipe over Hastelloy C276 Pipe?
Hastelloy C22 contains 22% Cr vs 16% in C276, giving it superior resistance to oxidising acids and a higher CCT of 80°C vs 55°C in acidified 6% FeCl₃. C22 is best for flexible plants where process fluids keep changing between corrosive oxidising and reducing environments.
Hastelloy C22 pipe usually costs similar to C276. Price per kg depends on size, schedule, type (seamless/welded), and market rates. Contact Nicorex Alloys for quotes.
Yes. Hastelloy C22 pipe is suitable for seawater piping, demonstrating zero crevice corrosion in both still and flowing seawater.
C22 pipe is ASME Code-approved to 677°C (1250°F) under Section I and Section VIII Div. 1. For ASME B31.3 process piping, the code allows service to 427°C (800°F).

C-4 (UNS N06455) carries 16% Cr and 16% Mo, originally designed for oxidising environments. C22 (22% Cr, 13% Mo) provides better resistance in both oxidising and reducing conditions and has largely replaced C-4 as the preferred versatile alloy in the C-family.

ASTM B622 / ASME SB622 covers seamless pipe and tube for UNS N06022. Welded pipe falls under ASTM B619 / ASME SB619, and welded tube under ASTM B626 / ASME SB626.
