Alloy 400 (Werkstoff 2.4360) is a solid-solution nickel‑copper alloy. They contain at least 63% nickel and 28-34% copper: the highest copper content of any nickel alloy. These flanges maintain corrosion rates below 1 mpy even in fast-flowing seawater at velocities above 2.4 m/s, where most copper-based and stainless steel alloys corrode quickly.  This combination of resistance to high-velocity seawater and outstanding resistance to de-aerated hydrofluoric acid at all concentrations makes UNS N04400 flanges a preferred joint material for marine piping and HF alkylation units worldwide. In the annealed condition, it provides a minimum tensile strength of 483 MPa (70 ksi) and a minimum yield strength of 172 MPa (25 ksi), giving a reliable safety margin in demanding service. Monel 400 flanges are available in all common configurations, including weld neck (WNRF), slip‑on (SORF), blind (BLRF), socket weld (SWRF), threaded, lap joint, long weld neck (LWN), ring type joint (RTJ), spectacle blind, and reducing designs. Standard sizes cover NPS 1/2″ to 24″ per ASME B16.5 and NPS 26″ to 60″ per ASME B16.47, in pressure classes 150 to 2500.

The alloy meets NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 standards and is widely used in marine, petroleum refining, chemical processing, desalination, and power generation.

Monel 400 is a solid-solution alloy. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment; strength increases only through cold working. Forged flanges ship in annealed or hot-finished condition. Actual tensile values for forgings typically range from 517 to 621 MPa, well above the 483 MPa minimum. Density: 8.80 g/cm³ (0.318 lb/in³). Melting range: 1300-1350°C (2370-2460°F).

Yes. Monel 400 is the industry-standard alloy for HF service. It resists all concentrations of de-aerated HF to 538°C. WNRF and RTJ in Class 300-900 are standard for HF alkylation piping.
The maximum service temperature for Monel 400 flanges is 538°C (1000°F) as per ASME B16.5 pressure‑temperature ratings.
Monel 400 has a Curie temperature within the ambient range (21-49°C), and it can show slight ferromagnetic behaviour. For non-magnetic applications, Monel 400 may exhibit slight magnetism depending on temperature and cold work.
Monel 400 is solid-solution strengthened (yield 172 MPa min). K500 is precipitation-hardened with Al and Ti to approximately three times the yield strength (690 MPa aged). Both share similar corrosion resistance. K500 has a greater SCC tendency in the aged condition. Choose 400 for general corrosion-resistant joints; K500 for high-strength pump shaft and valve stem connections.
