Super Duplex UNS S32760 Round Bar

Super Duplex UNS S32760 Round Bar Supplier in Mumbai, India

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified stockist and supplier of super duplex bar and rod products, based in Mumbai, India. We provide S32760 round bar manufactured to ASTM A276, ASTM A479, and ASME SA276/SA479. UNS S32760 is also designated as F55 (forging grade per ASTM A182), Zeron 100 (Rolled Alloys), Alloy 32760, and Werkstoff Nr. 1.4501.

UNS S32760 is a tungsten and copper-bearing super duplex stainless steel with a balanced austenitic-ferritic microstructure. Key alloying elements include 24-26% chromium, 6-8% nickel, 3-4% molybdenum, with intentional additions of tungsten (0.5-1.0%), copper (0.5-1.0%), and nitrogen (0.20-0.30%). The tungsten and copper additions are what make S32760 a reliable option for crevice corrosion resistance in stagnant seawater, while copper improves performance in reducing acids. The extended PREN formula yields a value of ≥40, confirming super duplex status. Impact toughness holds strong at sub-zero temperatures down to -46°C.

S32760 mechanical properties per ASTM A276 include a minimum yield strength of 550 MPa (80 ksi) and a minimum tensile strength of 750 MPa (109 ksi). Diameters range from 6 mm to 350 mm in round, hex, flat, square, bright, and black bar forms, with lengths from 1 to 6 metres (custom cut available). All bars ship in solution-annealed condition. Standards include ASTM A276, A479, A182 F55, EN 10088-3, NACE MR0175, and NORSOK MDS D54/D57. Applications range from subsea oil and gas, shipbuilding, chemical plants, power stations, and pollution control, because of the alloy’s high corrosion resistance and structural integrity.

Chemical Composition of UNS S32760 Round Bar

The S32760 chemical composition per ASTM A276 includes tungsten and copper additions that distinguish it from other super duplex grades.
Element Carbon (C) Manganese (Mn) Silicon (Si) Phosphorus (P) Sulphur (S) Chromium (Cr) Nickel (Ni) Molybdenum (Mo) Nitrogen (N) Tungsten (W) Copper (Cu) Iron (Fe)
Percentage (%) 0.030 max 1.00 max 1.00 max 0.030 max 0.010 max 24.0-26.0 6.0-8.0 3.0-4.0 0.20-0.30 0.50-1.00 0.50-1.00 Balance
The extended PREN formula for tungsten-bearing grades is PREN = %Cr + 3.3(%Mo + 0.5%W) + 16%N ≥40. Tungsten raises crevice corrosion resistance in low-velocity seawater, while copper improves resistance to sulphuric and hydrochloric acid.

Mechanical Properties of F55 Bar

The S32760 mechanical properties below apply to bar in solution-annealed condition per ASTM A276/A479.
Property Tensile Strength (min) Yield Strength 0.2% (min) Elongation (min) Hardness (max) Impact Toughness (typical, -46°C)
Value 750 550 15 310 45
Unit MPa (109 ksi) MPa (80 ksi) % HBW (32 HRC) J (Charpy V-notch)
S32760 retains strong impact toughness at sub-zero temperatures with no ductile-to-brittle transition, making F55 round bar suitable for cryogenic-rated subsea equipment.

Machining, Welding, and Fabrication of UNS S32760 Bar

S32760 is machinable but work-hardens rapidly. It employs rigid machining setups, positive-rake carbide inserts, and flood cooling. Cutting speeds need to be reduced by 40-50% compared to 316L to account for the increased yield strength and strong work hardening rate

For welding, use ER2594 or matching Zeron 100X filler. GTAW or SMAW are preferred. Heat input: 0.5-2.0 kJ/mm. No preheat needed above 0°C. Interpass temperature: 150°C max. Hot work at 1100-1230°C; do not work below 1000°C. Solution anneal at 1100-1140°C followed by rapid water quench.

Post-fabrication testing per ASTM G48A: no pitting at 50°C, weight loss < 4.0 g/m². Ferrite content in weldments: 35-55% per ASTM E562.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Zeron 100 and How Does it Relate to S32760?

Zeron 100 is the trade name originally developed by Mather & Platt (later Weir Pumps) for UNS S32760 super duplex steel. The trademark is now held by Rolled Alloys Inc. All S32760 bar meeting ASTM A276/A479 is equivalent to Zeron 100 in chemical and mechanical terms.

Yes. S32760 bar qualifies under NORSOK M-650 data sheets MDS D54 (solution annealed) and MDS D57 (hot finished). Qualification requires ASTM G48A testing at 50°C with no pitting and weight not exceeding 4.0 g/m², plus ferrite content between 35-55%.

The standard testing includes tensile testing (ASTM A370), hardness (HBW/HRC), Charpy impact test at -46°C, ASTM G48A corrosion at 50°C, ferrite count (ASTM E562), microstructure check (free from sigma/chi/laves phases), and IGC test (ASTM A262 Practice E). The mill certificates in accordance with EN 10204 3.1 are supplied with every heat treatment shipment.
