Hastelloy C22 Round Bars

Hastelloy C22 Round Bars Supplier in Mumbai, India – ASTM B574 UNS N06022

Nicorex Alloys is an ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 certified importer, stockist, and trading company of Hastelloy C276 round bars based in Mumbai, India. Alloy C-276 (UNS N10276, Werkstoff 2.4819, EN NiMo16Cr15W) is a nickel-molybdenum-chromium-tungsten alloy manufactured to ASTM B574 / ASME SB574 and AMS 5750. Our products of the given specification are supplied throughout the country and worldwide.

The 16% Mo + 4% W combination is what makes C276 the industry benchmark for reducing-acid and chloride-rich service. That tungsten addition sets it apart from every other C-family alloy, giving unmatched corrosion-resistance service to pitting and crevice attack in HCl, H₂SO₄, and chloride process streams, performing for longer. Minimum tensile reaches 690 MPa (100 ksi) with 283 MPa (41 ksi) yield and 40% elongation in the solution-annealed condition at 1121°C (2050°F). Hastelloy C276 density is 8.89 g/cm³. Melting range: 1325-1370°C (2455-2500°F). Maximum service: 1038°C (1900°F) in oxidising atmospheres. NACE MR-01-75 / ISO 15156 listed for sour gas service.

The diameters vary from 3 mm to 500 mm, with a length of up to 6000 mm. The shapes include round bars, hex bars, flat bars, square bars, rectangular bars, forged bars, hollow bars, and rods. The conditions of heat and processing include solution annealed, cold drawn, hot rolled, and forged. The surface finishes include black, bright, turned, peeled, and polished. The welding process uses ERNiCrMo-4 (AWS A5.14) matching filler wire. All shipments are accompanied by EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificates, PMI reports, and traceability documents.

Chemical Composition of Alloy C22 Bars

Hastelloy C22 chemical composition as per ASTM B574, UNS N06022 for round bar is covered in the table below:
Element Nickel (Ni) Chromium (Cr) Molybdenum (Mo) Tungsten (W) Iron (Fe) Cobalt (Co) Vanadium (V) Silicon (Si) Carbon (C)
Content (wt%) Balance 20.0 – 22.5 12.5 – 14.5 2.5 – 3.5 2.0 – 6.0 2.5 max 0.35 max 0.08 max 0.015 max
Cr at 20–22.5% is the key differentiator. C276 sits at 14.5–16.5%, a 6% gap that gives C22 significantly better resistance to nitric acid, ferric chloride, and cupric chloride solutions. Mo (12.5–14.5%) + W (2.5–3.5%) still cover reducing-acid and crevice corrosion duty. Ultra-low C (0.015%) prevents carbide precipitation during welding.

Mechanical Properties of ASTM B574 Hastelloy C22 Bar and Rod

Hastelloy C22 mechanical properties, including tensile and yield strength, elongation, and hardness in the solution annealed condition is mentioned in the table below:
Property Tensile Strength Yield 0.2% Offset Elongation Hardness
ASTM B574 Min 690 MPa (100 ksi) 310 MPa (45 ksi) 45% ≤241 HB
Typical 800 MPa (116 ksi) 370 MPa (53.7 ksi) 62%
C22 holds a higher minimum yield (310 MPa) and elongation (45%) than C276 (283 MPa / 40%). This combination of strength and ductility suits components that must resist both mechanical loading and mixed-acid attack. C22 is not age-hardenable.

Machining, Hot Working & Heat Treatment of Hastelloy C22 Round Bars

Hastelloy C22 machining is moderate to difficult. Use carbide inserts at 15–25 m/min with positive rake, rigid setups, and flood coolant. The alloy work-hardens rapidly; avoid light rubbing cuts. Hot forge from 1232°C (2250°F) down to 954°C (1750°F) with moderate reductions. Re-anneal after all hot work.

Solution anneal at 1121°C (2050°F), water quench. Cold-worked parts with >7% outer fibre elongation must be re-annealed. Stress relief at 650°C is not recommended (risk of intermetallic precipitation). Weld by GTAW, GMAW, or SMAW using ERNiCrMo-10 (AWS A5.14) matching filler. No preheat required. ERNiCrMo-10 also serves as a universal overmatching filler for joining C276, 625, and dissimilar Ni-Cr-Mo alloys.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Hastelloy C22 Differ from C276 for Round Bar Applications?

C22 has 20–22.5% Cr, while C276 has 14.5–16.5% chromium. This gives C22 superior resistance to oxidising acids and makes it the better choice when conditions fluctuate between oxidising and reducing. C276, with higher Mo (15–17% vs 12.5–14.5%), remains preferred for dedicated reducing-acid service. Both resist chloride SCC.

ERNiCrMo-10 has a balanced Cr-Mo composition that resists both oxidising and reducing media. This makes it an overmatching universal filler for joining C276 to 625, C276 to C22, or nickel alloys to stainless steel. The deposit handles the widest range of corrosive attacks.

Yes. C22 has been evaluated and specified for nuclear waste repository applications. The alloy resists long-term localised corrosion in hot, chloride-bearing groundwater.

Yes. Hastelloy C22 bar is listed under NACE MR-01-75 / ISO 15156. It resists sulfide stress cracking and hydrogen-induced cracking in H₂S environments. C-22HS (UNS N07022) is available for yield >120 ksi sour service.

C22 bar is suitable up to 677°C (1250°F) for sustained corrosive service. Prolonged exposure above 650°C risks intermetallic precipitation. For higher temperatures, consider Hastelloy X or Inconel 625.

Hastelloy C22 bright bars are available in centreless ground (h8/h9), peeled, polished, and turned. Bright finish suits pharmaceutical and valve components. Black (as-rolled) is standard for general machining stock.
Nicorex provides EN 10204 3.1 MTC (standard), 3.2 (third-party witnessed), PMI, UT, and IGC as per ASTM G28A, NACE TM0177/TM0284. Third-party inspection by Lloyd’s, BV, SGS, or DNV can be arranged.
