What Are Hastelloy Round Bars?
Hastelloy round bars are solid cylindrical products made from nickel-based superalloys. These alloys resist concentrated acids, chlorine-bearing chemicals, and mixed corrosive environments where stainless steels fail. Round bars are the most common form for valve stems, pump shafts, and machined parts.
Bars are made by hot forging for larger diameters, cold drawing for tighter tolerances, and centerless grinding for shaft-quality finishes. Most grades ship in solution annealed condition. Hastelloy alloys (except X) gain strength only through cold work, not heat treatment. Nickel forms the base, molybdenum resists reducing acids, and chromium adds oxidation resistance.

Available Grades of Hastelloy Round Bars
Hastelloy C276 Round Bar
The most widely used Ni-Cr-Mo grade. C276 resists sulfuric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acid, plus wet chlorine gas. ASTM B574 standard covers this grade.
Hastelloy C22 Round Bar
Higher chromium (22%) gives C22 better pitting and stress corrosion cracking resistance than C276 in oxidising conditions. This grade complies with the ASTM B574 standard.
Hastelloy B2 Round Bars
B2 handles hydrochloric acid at all concentrations. Not suitable for oxidising environments. ASTM B335 is the standard that covers this grade.
Hastelloy B3 Round Bars
Hastelloy B3 improves on B2 with better thermal stability and is used for HCl, HBr, and H₂SO₄ service, as covered under ASTM B335.
Hastelloy C2000 Round Bars
The added copper (1.6%) of Hastelloy C2000 improves sulfuric acid resistance. This allows the alloy to handle both oxidising and reducing acids, and the material is supplied in accordance with ASTM B574.
Hastelloy X Round Bars
Hastelloy X retains its strength up to 2200°F (1204°C) and is used in gas turbines, furnaces, and aerospace parts, as specified under ASTM B572.
