We supply seamless pipes per ASTM B444 / ASME SB444, welded pipes per ASTM B705 / B775, butt weld fittings per ASTM B366 (WPNCI625), and forged fittings per ASTM B564.

Inconel 625 (UNS N06625 / Werkstoff 2.4856) is a strong metal made of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. Solid solution strengthened without precipitation hardening; niobium prevents welding sensitisation and eliminates post-weld heat treatment (it applies specifically to stabilised grades of stainless steel). There are two grades of this product, Grade 1 (annealed) and Grade 2 (solution annealed). Grade 1 has a tensile strength of 827 MPa (120 ksi) and a yield strength of 414 MPa (60 ksi). Grade 2 has a yield strength of 290 MPa (42 ksi) and is more stable at high temperatures. Elongation ranges from 30% to 40%, with full cryogenic toughness to -196°C and reliable service up to 593°C.

Seamless pipes vary from NPS 1/2″ to 12″ with schedules ranging from 5S to XXS. Buttweld fittings vary from 1/2″ to 48″ in NPS, including elbows, tees, reducers, caps, and stub ends. Fittings range from 2000# to 9000# in forged materials. Fittings conform to NACE MR 01-75 and ISO 15156 standards for sour gas applications. ASME BPVC Code Case 1935 has been approved.

Chemical Composition of Inconel 625 Pipes & Fittings

The chemical composition of Inconel 625 as per ASTM B444 is given in the table below. The niobium content of this alloy is of prime interest for its high-strength properties.
Property UNS Werkstoff Nr. EN / DIN JIS BS ASME BPVC Trade Names
Designation N06600 2.4816 NiCr15Fe / 17742, 17750–17754 NCF 600 3072–3076 (NA14) Sections I, III, VIII (Code Case 1827) Inconel 600, Nicrofer 7216 H, Nickelvac 600, Pyromet 600
High nickel (58% min.) inhibits chloride-induced SCC. Molybdenum (8–10) and chromium (20–23%) resist oxidation and reduction. Solid-solution strengthening and welding sensitisation avoidance with niobium (3.15–4.15%) reduces PWHT. Low iron (≤5%) suggests a nickel-based superalloy, not a nickel-iron alloy.

Mechanical Properties of Inconel 625 Pipes & Fittings

The mechanical properties of Inconel 625 as per ASTM B444 are given below. These properties are of interest for comparing the different yield strengths of Grade 1 and Grade 2.
Property Tensile (min) Yield 0.2% (min) Elongation (min) Hydrostatic Test
Grade 1 (Annealed ≥871°C) 827 MPa (120 ksi) 414 MPa (60 ksi) 30% 207 MPa (30,000 psi)
Grade 2 (Sol. Annealed ≥1093°C) 724 MPa (105 ksi) 290 MPa (42 ksi) 40% 172 MPa (25,000 psi)
Grade 1 is the default for service up to 593°C. Grade 2 for superior creep-rupture above 593°C. Charpy impact testing checks how tough the material is, and if it scores between 47-68 J at -196°C, the alloy is suitable for LNG (liquefied natural gas) and cryogenic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What ASTM Standard Covers Inconel 625 Seamless Pipe?

ASTM B167 / ASME SB167 covers seamless pipe and tube. ASTM B163 covers condenser/heat-exchanger tubes. Welded: B517 (pipe), B516 (tube). Fittings: B366 (buttweld WPNCI).

Grade 1 is annealed at ≥871°C: 827 MPa tensile, 414 MPa yield, for service up to 593°C. Grade 2 is solution annealed at ≥1093°C: 724 MPa tensile, 290 MPa yield, for creep resistance above 593°C. Grade 1 is the default.
Depends on size, schedule, grade, seamless/welded, quantity, and nickel/molybdenum prices. Contact Nicorex Alloys about pricing.
No. Niobium (3.15-4.15%) prevents sensitisation, eliminating PWHT. Pipes enter service as welded with full corrosion resistance maintained.
Yes. Full ductility at -196°C (-320°F). Charpy impact: 47-68 J at liquid-nitrogen temperature. Qualified for LNG piping and cryogenic systems.
Yes. Listed in NACE MR-01-75 / ISO 15156 for H₂S environments. Seamless and welded forms approved in annealed or solution-annealed condition.

ASTM B167 applies to nickel‑chromium‑iron alloys (N06600, N06601, N06690) used for seamless pipes and tubes. B829 is a more general standard that covers many nickel alloys. Both give the same product quality; B167 is specific to certain alloys, while B829 is a general specification.

625 offers higher tensile strength (827 vs 690 MPa) and a wider temperature range (cryo to 982°C vs 677°C). C276 has higher PREN (69-80 vs ~51) for superior pitting resistance. Choose 625 for strength; C276 for maximum chemical resistance.
