Incoloy 926 (UNS N08926, EN 1.4529) is a super austenitic stainless steel with about 6% molybdenum. Its chemistry typically includes 45–50% iron, 24–26% nickel, 19–21% chromium, 6–7% molybdenum, and 0.15–0.25% nitrogen. This alloy achieves a PREN of approximately 41–43 and a critical pitting temperature of 65–70°C in 6% FeCl₃. As a result, it offers higher chloride pitting resistance and material for seawater-cooled systems, FGD scrubbers, phosphoric acid plants and desalination.
Alloy 926 fasteners typically have a tensile strength of 650 MPa (94 ksi) and a yield strength of 295 MPa (43 ksi). These Alloy 926 fasteners are available in hex bolts, stud bolts, socket head cap screws, hex nuts, lock nuts, washers, threaded rods, U-bolts, set screws and eye bolts. Available sizes range from M6 to M100 and from 1/4″ to 4″. These fasteners are qualified to NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 for sour service applications. They also have VdTÜV approval for use between -196°C and 400°C. All products are manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management systems.

Industries and Applications for Incoloy 926 Fasteners
- Seawater systems and desalination: Heat exchanger bolting, RO membrane housing studs, brine recirculation pump fasteners, intake/outfall piping flanges.
- FGD scrubbers: Absorber tower bolting, ductwork flange studs, quench system equipment, re-heater structural fasteners.
- Phosphoric acid and fertiliser: Wet-process H₃PO₄ reactor bolting, evaporator studs, acid storage tank flanges.
- Pulp & Paper: Used to bleach plant equipment bolting for chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) service, pulp washer assemblies and caustic recovery units where corrosion resistance in acidic and oxidising settings is critical.
- Offshore Oil & Gas: Used for bolting in moderate‑pressure seawater systems and on topside process equipment in conditions where super duplex stainless steels are nearing the edge of their performance capability.
- Pharmaceutical & Food Processing: Perfect for clean, high‑purity equipment where you need non‑magnetic, corrosion‑resistant bolts that can be electropolished to keep everything hygienic and protect the product.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Difference between Incoloy 926 and 904L for Fasteners?
Incoloy 926 has higher Mo (6-7% vs 904L’s 4-5%), higher Ni (25% vs 24%), and added nitrogen (0.2%). Result: 926’s PREN (~42-44) exceeds 904L (~36) by 17-22%, giving significantly better pitting resistance. CPT in FeCl₃: 65-70°C for 926 vs 45°C for 904L. For seawater or chloride-aggressive service, 926 is the clear upgrade.
Is Incoloy 926 a Stainless Steel or a Nickel Alloy?
Incoloy 926 is a super austenitic stainless steel. Iron is the base element (~45-50% Fe), with 25% Ni. Unlike Inconel alloys (>50% Ni) or even Incoloy 825 (38-46% Ni), 926 has lower nickel content, reducing cost. The 6% Mo + 0.2% N give it corrosion resistance approaching nickel alloy levels.
How Does Incoloy 926 Compare to Super Duplex for Bolting?
What is the CPT (Critical Pitting Temperature) of Incoloy 926?
65–70°C (149–158°F) in 6% FeCl₃ per ASTM G48. Exceeds 40°C minimum for North Sea offshore and 50°C for pulp bleaching. Comparison: 316L ~15°C, 904L ~45°C, super duplex S32750 ~50°C.
