Inconel 718 Fasteners

Inconel 718 Fasteners Supplier in Mumbai, India – Bolts and Nuts

Nicorex Alloys is a supplier of Inconel 718 fasteners in Mumbai, India. Inconel 718 is a high-strength nickel alloy that is precipitation hardened. It typically contains 50–55% nickel, 17–21% chromium, about 17% iron, and 4.75–5.50% niobium, along with other alloying elements.

It achieves a yield strength of 150 ksi (1034 MPa) through a special double-phase ageing process involving γ″ (Ni₃Nb) and γ′ (Ni₃(Al, Ti)) phases. This treatment allows each Inconel 718 bolt to provide a very high clamp load and reliable performance. Because of its strength and stability, Inconel 718 is widely used in demanding applications such as high-pressure wellheads, aerospace gas turbines, and nuclear reactor vessels, especially where reducing bolt count and flange size is important. Inconel 718 (UNS N07718, Werkstoff 2.4668) is a high-strength nickel alloy fastener material. These fasteners are supplied to ASTM B637 (not ASTM F468).

In the solution-treated condition (Class 1), they provide a minimum tensile strength of 862 MPa (125 ksi) and a yield strength of 517 MPa (75 ksi). In the solution-treated and aged condition (Class 2), the minimum tensile strength is 1241 MPa (180 ksi) and the yield strength is 1034 MPa (150 ksi), with hardness limited to 40 HRC. Available products include Inconel 718 hex bolts, stud bolts, socket head cap screws (SHCS), nuts, lock nuts, screws, washers, threaded rods, U-bolts, and eye bolts. Standard sizes range from M6 to M100, which is about 1/4 inch to 4 inches. These fasteners are listed for use in sour service under NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 and are suitable for temperatures from -253°C to 700°C (up to 1300°F). Production and quality systems are typically ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified.

Chemical Composition of Inconel 718 Fasteners

The following table summarises the typical elemental composition ranges specified for Inconel 718 fasteners (UNS N07718):
Element Nickel (Ni + Co) Chromium (Cr) Iron (Fe) Niobium + Tantalum (Nb+Ta) Molybdenum (Mo) Titanium (Ti) Aluminium (Al) Carbon (C) Boron (B)
Composition (%) 50.0–55.0 17.0–21.0 Balance (~17) 4.75–5.50 2.80–3.30 0.65–1.15 0.20–0.80 0.08 max 0.006 max

The 5% Nb + Ti + Al combination is what enables precipitation hardening via γ″ (Ni₃Nb) and γ′ (Ni₃(Al, Ti)) phases. No other standard-production nickel alloy achieves both precipitate phases simultaneously. The ~17% Fe (vs 5% in 625) reduces raw material cost while maintaining strength after ageing.

Mechanical Properties of Inconel 718 Fasteners

The table below outlines the typical mechanical properties of Inconel 718 fasteners in solution-annealed and solution-annealed plus aged conditions:
Property Tensile Strength (min) Yield 0.2% (min) Elongation (min) Hardness (max)
Class 1 (SA) 862 MPa (125 ksi) 517 MPa (75 ksi) 30%
Class 2 (SA + Aged) 1241 MPa (180 ksi) 1034 MPa (150 ksi) 12% 40 HRC
Class 2 aged condition delivers 150 ksi yield, making 718 approximately 3× stronger than solution-annealed Inconel 625 (60 ksi) and 4× stronger than Inconel 600 (35 ksi). For NACE sour service, hardness is limited to 40 HRC. Aerospace ageing per AMS 5663 targets ≤36 HRC. Buyers must specify which ageing schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Inconel 718 the strongest Nickel Alloy Fastener?
The 5% Nb + Ti + Al enables double-phase precipitation hardening (γ″ Ni₃Nb + γ′ Ni₃(Al,Ti)). No other standard nickel alloy achieves both phases. Result: 180 ksi tensile, 150 ksi yield – approximately 3× stronger than solution-strengthened 625.

Yes. Precipitation-hardened 718 at >35 HRC can absorb hydrogen during electroplating or cathodic protection. Bake at 190°C within 4 hours of plating (ASTM B849). Control hardness ≤40 HRC for sour/subsea service. Avoid excessive cathodic protection potentials.

Yes. 718 retains excellent ductility and Charpy impact toughness down to -253°C (-423°F). It is the standard material for liquid hydrogen and LNG bolting. Impact resistance actually improves at cryogenic temperatures compared to room temperature.
