Monel 400 Round Bar
Monel 400 is a solid-solution nickel-copper alloy hardened only by cold work. It resists seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and caustic alkalis. This grade is spark-resistant. Its tensile strength is min 480 MPa (annealed). 400 is used for marine shafts, valve stems, and chemical equipment. It complies with the ASTM B164 standard.
Monel K-500 Round Bar
Monel K-500 is an age-hardenable version of Monel 400 with aluminium and titanium. It yields about 3x the yield strength (690 MPa) and 2x the tensile (965 MPa) of Monel 400. It is non-magnetic to -150°F (-101°C). This grade has a greater SCC tendency than 400. K500 is used for pump shafts, propeller shafts, and oil well tools. ASTM B865 is the standard that covers this grade.
Monel R-405 Round Bar
Monel R-405 can be considered the free-machining version of Monel 400 with controlled sulfur (0.025–0.060%). It has the same corrosion resistance. This grade is used for screw machine products and high-volume fasteners. R-405 complies with the ASTM B164 standard.
