What are Monel Fasteners?
Monel fasteners are bolts, nuts, screws, studs, washers, and threaded rods made from nickel-copper alloys. These alloys resist crevice corrosion between mating surfaces and hold clamping force for a long time. Monel is also spark-resistant, making it safe for flammable settings.
316L stainless steel bolts suffer chloride crevice corrosion under bolt heads in seawater. Monel 400 shows very low crevice attack. Monel K-500 adds a yield of about 690 MPa, removing the corrosion-strength trade-off that limits stainless steel in marine bolting.

Available Grades of Monel Fasteners
Monel 400 Fasteners
Monel 400 is the most common Monel fastener grade. Annealed yield is 240 MPa minimum. It resists flowing seawater, hydrofluoric acid, and caustic alkalis. Spark-resistant.
Monel K-500 Fasteners
Monel K-500 is the age-hardenable version of Monel 400 with aluminium and titanium. Yield reaches 690 MPa, higher than that of Monel 400. Non-magnetic to -150°F (-101°C). Used for subsea bolting and high-load marine fasteners under ASTM F468 and QQ-N-286.
Monel R-405 Fasteners
This is the free-machining version of Monel 400 with controlled sulfur for faster screw machine production. R-405 has the same corrosion resistance as 400. It is used for valve stem nuts and threaded parts under ASTM B164.
