ERNiCrCoMo-1 is a high-performance alloy designed to create incredibly strong welds that won’t weaken or stretch under extreme heat. This Ni-Cr-Co-Mo filler carries approximately 53% Ni, 23% Cr, 12% Co, 9% Mo, and 1% Al. It remains stable and reliable between 800°C and 1100°C, resisting the typical rust and damage caused by high-temperature gases. Classified under AWS A5.14 ERNiCrCoMo-1 (UNS N06617, F-43). Typical tensile strength reaches 620 MPa (90 ksi) with optimum performance between 815 and 1150°C (1500 and 2100°F). The 12% cobalt provides solid-solution strengthening that persists where Mo-only alloys soften, while 1% aluminium forms a protective sub-layer beneath the Cr₂O₃ scale.
ERNiCrCoMo-1 is the specified matching filler for Inconel 617 base metal under ASME Code Case 1956 (Sections I and VIII) and a candidate filler for Gen IV VHTR nuclear applications. Cobalt (10–15%) lowers stacking fault energy in the FCC nickel matrix, impeding dislocation climb and increasing creep-rupture life at elevated temperature. Aluminium (0.8-1.5%) creates an Al-rich sub-layer beneath the Cr₂O₃ scale, improving cyclic oxidation resistance. Storage and Handling of Inconel 617 Welding Wire

Store TIG rods in sealed tubes and MIG/SAW spools in sealed packaging in a clean, dry environment (15–25°C, <60% RH). Avoid wire near carbon steel storage and grinding. Fingerprint oils contain sulphur and chlorides, which produce porosity and hot breaking.
Sulphur (cutting fluids, fingerprints), lead (paints, anti-seize), zinc (galvanised steel, zinc-rich primers), copper (backing bars, brass fittings), and low-melting-point metals need to be removed. Manage grinding dust with 10–15% cobalt in ERNiCrCoMo-1 per plant requirements.
