- Duplex & Super Duplex Steel Welding Electrodes
Duplex stainless steel welding electrodes join metals with a mixed austenite-ferrite structure. This two-phase makeup gives duplex steels high strength and resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Super duplex stainless steel welding electrodes add higher chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen for more aggressive conditions.
These DSS welding electrodes produce a balanced ferrite-austenite weld deposit. They resist pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress cracking in chloride-rich settings. Super duplex welding rod grades provide even greater pitting resistance through a higher PREN value.
Engineers pick duplex stainless steel welding electrodes when a project needs both corrosion resistance and high strength. Standard austenitic grades fall short in chloride-bearing fluids. Duplex grades allow thinner wall sections due to higher yield strength.
These electrodes serve offshore oil and gas platforms, desalination plants, chemical processing units, and marine structures. Any project exposed to seawater or acidic chloride solutions benefits from these weld deposits.
Nicorex Alloys is a supplier and stockist of duplex and super duplex stainless steel coated electrodes, serving refineries, offshore fabricators, and EPC contractors. All our products are sourced from approved mills to guarantee fast and dependable delivery.
Complete Range of Duplex & Super Duplex Steel Welding Electrodes
| Product Grade | Best Metals They Can Weld | Reason |
|---|---|---|
|
AWS CLASS E2209-16 WELDING ELECTRODE
|
UNS S31803, S32205 duplex stainless steels; also joins duplex to carbon steel | Matching 22% Cr duplex composition gives correct ferrite-austenite balance and chloride resistance |
|
AWS CLASS E2594-16 WELDING ELECTRODE
|
UNS S32750, S32760 super duplex stainless steels | Higher Cr, Mo, and N content matches the base metal PREN above 40, needed for seawater and severe chloride exposure |
Quick Selection Guide
| Base Metal Being Welded | Recommended Electrode | AWS Class | Why This Choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| UNS S31803 (2205 Duplex) | E2209-16 Welding Electrode | E2209-16 | 22% Cr deposit matches the base metal phase balance and corrosion resistance |
| UNS S32205 (2205 Duplex) | E2209-16 Welding Electrode | E2209-16 | Same family as S31803; E2209 provides correct ferrite content of 30-65% in the weld |
| Duplex to Carbon Steel (Dissimilar Joint) | E2209-16 Welding Electrode | E2209-16 | Maintains duplex phase balance and corrosion resistance despite dilution from carbon steel, reducing cracking risk in dissimilar joints |
| UNS S32750 (2507 Super Duplex) | E2594-16 Welding Electrode | E2594-16 | 25% Cr super duplex deposit matches the high PREN needed for seawater service |
