- Chrome Moly Flux Core Wire
Chrome moly flux core wire is a tubular welding consumable filled with flux compounds that generate shielding gases and slag to protect the weld pool used with external shielding gas. These wires join chromium-molybdenum steels used in high-temperature, high-pressure service. The flux core produces a slag layer that protects the molten metal from atmospheric contamination.
Chrome moly flux cored wire produces weld deposits with creep resistance, oxidation stability, and hydrogen attack resistance. These wires offer higher deposition rates than stick electrodes. They also reduce downtime on large-diameter pipe joints and pressure vessel seams.
Welding chrome-moly with flux-cored wire offers faster joint completion and lower labour costs. The weld deposit matches or slightly over-alloys the base metal chemistry for consistent performance. This reduces carbon migration and keeps creep properties uniform across the joint.
Chrome moly flux core wire is used in steam piping, superheater tubes, boiler headers, reactor vessels, and catalytic reformer piping. It is also found in thermal power generation, oil refining, and petrochemical processing.
Nicorex Alloys is a Mumbai-based supplier and stockist of chrome moly flux cored wire. We stock AWS-classified grades and supply them to power plants, refineries, and fabrication shops across India. As a chrome moly flux cored wire supplier, we source our chrome-moly alloy products from recognised producers.
Complete Range of Chrome Moly Flux Core Wire
| Product Grade | Best Metals They Can Weld | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steels (ASTM A335 P11, A213 T11) | Matched deposit chemistry gives uniform creep and hydrogen attack resistance. | |
| 2.25Cr-1Mo steels (ASTM A335 P22, A213 T22) | Higher Cr-Mo content provides creep rupture strength and hydrogen resistance up to 590°C. | |
| Modified 9Cr-1Mo-V steels (ASTM A335 P91, A213 T91) | Vanadium and niobium additions produce superior creep strength for supercritical steam systems. |
Quick Selection Matrix
| Base Metal Being Welded | Recommended Wire | AWS Class | Why This Choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel (P11 / T11) | E81T1-B2 Flux Core | E81T1-B2 | Matched deposit ensures uniform creep behaviour across the weld. |
| 2.25Cr-1Mo steel (P22 / T22) | E91T1-B2 Flux Core | E91T1-B2 | 2.25Cr-1Mo deposit gives creep rupture strength and hydrogen resistance up to 590°C. |
| Modified 9Cr-1Mo-V steel (P91 / T91) | E91T1-B9 Flux Core | E91T1-B9 | Vanadium-niobium additions give superior creep life in supercritical steam systems. |
| Boiler headers (P22 grade) | E91T1-B3 Flux Core | E91T1-B3 | Higher alloy content handles sustained pressure and temperature in thick-wall joints. |
